The Best Seiko Divers Under $500 for 2021: Samurai vs Monster (SRPB51 & SRPD25) Watch

My probs with black bezels is that they wear out and looks shit. So i keep out of those

Can someone tell me why the Rolex explorer is so revered and held in such high regard? What is all the fuss about? it is such plain ugly looking watch...?

How come nobody is a diver but everyone wants a diver watch. I’m an Economist and I’m hurt. I wish everyone wanted an Economist’s watch. They could even label them by education level: a Collegiate, the Seiko MA, the Rolex Phd. Wouldn’t that at least bring some variety?

That Samurai is terrible if you're working everyday, the crown digs into your wrist.
I don't have that problem with the Seiko turtle.

Bought the srph75, what a beautiful piece! Put it on a black waffle strap, and it is the perfect match for any sport or casual look.

The Samurai!! I own some Turtles, but I also like the sharp edges and the brightness of the Samurai. The Monster has a too busy dail.

Thank you for your detailed review and comparison. I really like both watched but lean towards the Samurai for versitility. The subject of push pin versus screw pin bracelets is very disputable as i've witnessed screw pins work loose or break, but have never seen a properly inserted push pin come loose or break.

Love the samurai, next on my list to purchase. And I've learned a new word, historicity! I thought you'd made it up lol!

The problem with Seiko 5 and divers is that their date and day do not change accurately at 12:01am. You have to wait until 2-3am haha talking about accuracy. I got so frustrated I told myself never to buy Seiko again. You too should think it over. It's just a hype.

Imho, the Turtle and King Turtle remain Seiko’s best diver with the Prospex Version still coming in at under £500. All time classics in their own right.

I must admit I prefer the SRPD25.

The king samurai has my vote. The SRPG21 to be exact... Love the blue on it. A subtle pop of color perfect for summer on the right strap of course.

I can't understand why folks wear their watch on their left, the crown digging into the back of their hand when they flex their wrist. I put mine on my right for comfort.

Picked up a monster for half price last January sales I love it

I don't understand why there was no improvement with automatic calibers in the past 60 years. My watch with the caliber from 1955 (I received it in 1973 as a gift for my first communion from my granddad), being stored until I finished my military service at 19 year old and was then used daily past 35 years - literally everywhere, never serviced with less than a minute error in a month...and it is a watch I can easily wear with my sleeve. Power reserve is 48+ hours. What is important - still in a mint condition, so good built.

Just got a Monster from the bay today. I first thought it was too big for my small wrist. but got to tried one in a store and it’s good also for smaller wrists. It’s and beautiful watch and before i picked this model I was debating btwn. this model and the SRPE27 one with the PADI approval. I think the SRPE25 is better looking.

First of all: Orient and Seiko are the same company.

Also… for me the Samurai is way cleaner and more modern then the postmodern monster. The monster looks dated.

Monster blue dial and day/date is far better between the two however, my personal preference is the solar or kinetic versions of those 200M watches including the ss bracelet vs. a strap. The power reserve is much more with the solar and kinetic, almost 80 hours I believe. This makes wearing one watch from another more convenient without having to worry about it keeping time. The only problem I find today is choices in the "Prospect" or the "5" models, most are automatics and few have the day/date which I also prefer. Also, I love the 44mm dials or larger.

I used to have the seiko SRP637 but sold it for the seiko zimbe 13 limited edition 323 out of 999 that were made. I bought a gold endmill bracelet for it and it looks phenomenal. Mind it was over $500 tho. I had to sell my watch collection for it but it is worth every penny.
You should check out the watch if you get a chance. Let me know your thoughts.

I have a 007 and I bought the 2019 PADI Samurai and I then I bought the monster orange dial. The Samurai is just so perfect short lug to lug, hacking and hand winding, solid end links and it looks killer on a nato. I wore it everyday until I got my Citizen ny0040-17le. That dual color lume on the Samurai the blue and green is just too awesome.

I got my Titanium Samurai SBDA 001, right after getting the 40th Anniversary SKZ205, also in Titanium. Both have never been opened and are going just fine. Thought quite a lot about getting a Monster but never pulled the trigger. Saw one for around $400 AU...still thinking. Always a great history and review.

Bracelet on this monster is so cheap and loud when you shake it,i tried it and very disapointed!Samurai is much,much better build,in my opinion!

Very informative for someone just starting to look at Seiko! Looking to expand collection of Tissot to Seiko and Orient.

I think for a Seiko Dive watch under $500 I will stick with a STEELDIVE variant...with its Seiko SII NH35A. I own a few and each one has delivered exceptional value as a daily driver. For luxury/investment grade watches for special occasions, and if I need to replace either my Rolex Submariner 16613 or Glashutte Senator, then a Grand Seiko or possibly the Glashutte SeaQ.
Frankly, Steeldive is a watch I can wear anywhere and never worry that I will lose my arm.

Do you think that today the SRPB51 Samurai is still a good option for this price? 🤔

I got that same Samurai as an impulse buy not long ago. You are right about the bracelet. I like how it looks on the watch but sizing it was such a PAIN! Its not like regular pinned bracelets, this one had some kind of special little sleeve that was extremely easy to lose. And yes, it adds so much weight! I ended up putting it on an Uncle Seiko tropic strap and… wow, it just made a world of difference. It suits it perfectly, and I think it dresses it up a bit as well while actually making it more sporty at the same time.

Recently got into monsters. Started with an excellent homage - Seestern. Now have a Gen 1 SKX779, a Gen 2 SRP581 blue ocean and a Gen 4 yellow SRPF35. Love them all except for the cyclops on the gen 4. Just horrible. Never again.

A perfectly aligned Seiko?! I can only dream. Waiting on my SRPD25 now. Fingers crossed!!
