Snugpak Antarctic Mat. Is it better insulating than a roll mat?

I wanted to try taking a little less bulk while camping this year. Foam mats are great for insulation but quite large to carry. Have been looking at the Snugpak Antarctic Insulated Mat and not seen any information of any use on YouTube so bought one. It is not cheap at £55. 00. However it is made in the UK, is really well made and there is nothing to go wrong so to me that justifies the price tag.

Reading up on bits of kit is no substitute to actually handling them and working out if it is something that would be suitable item to add into a persons kit.

When sleeping on the ground I like to be warm all night and comfortable. Full respect to all you good people out there who can carry very little and sleep just about anywhere. I can do that also but it is not enjoyable for me.

In this video I have added my first impressions and think it will benefit my style of camping.

If you are after something comfortable as a stand alone item to sleep on then this is not for you. I purchased this for two reasons. Firstly as an extra layer of insulation to stop any cold reaching up from the ground. Secondly as an additional barrier to prevent annoying objects like stones and twigs poking up and puncturing my air mats. Oh and with less bulk than a regular insulating mat.
