Again I miss him
ОтветитьI feel like a lot of what Arin says about z-targeting and complex combat that requires paying attention to the environment really strikes at what makes Soulsbornes so popular. (Take with a grain of salt, I'm not really a soulsborne player, I just know several)
ОтветитьFamily time fun
ОтветитьI am a big fan of Arin Hanson whoever there is something that must be said of this video.
This is just Arin being biased.
He obviously likes a link to the past better since by his own words he hates being told what to do in game.
A link to the past is arguably worse since they straight up tell you which one to go next while on ocarina of time its just the first 3 that get the railroady treatment.
By his own critique of the game the original Legend of Zelda is the best game since you could go anywhere yet he keeps comparing it to a link to the past.
Not to mention that he is obviously playing the game wrong.
The closest I would compare it to is to trying to play a Souls game with a shield, its doable but it will increase the waiting time longer since that time could've been used to advance the state of whatever fight you are currently doing.
Sad thing is he will never read this since he has gone on record that he doesnt read comments anymore, but it had to be said.
Thanks to whoever took the time to read this hope you had a nice day.
Remember when Arin used to animate?
ОтветитьBy making fun of the Spinner, you have officially provoked a gang war
Ответитьi return for my pilgrimage to the holy whiteguy video essay to get me started on this genre of entertainment
ОтветитьGod only knows how he feels about ToTK…
ОтветитьI always loved how he said “Sanic the hedgehoog”
ОтветитьThe most salient point of frustration that Arin gets across in this video is the idea of waiting as a form of “difficulty”. I watched this video almost a decade ago and that has always stuck with me and is something i look for in games as a negative.
ОтветитьWatching this vid again after so many years, i wouldn't say most of what he says in this makes OoT bad. BUT some of his points that are implemented in BoTW help to make it amazing!
ОтветитьNow years later we have 2 real sequals to the original zelda idea:
-Breath of the wild
-Elden Ring
Always loved this video, so ahead of its time. Helped me alot in my work too.
Your videos are some of the best many in the industry got , for free
Why is it that whenever I watch this video I always think of the difference between Retail World of Warcraft and Classic World of Warcraft?
Oh yeah
It's because Retail is about the combat but the combat is no longer "press this button at this time or you'll die" and now "Mash all the buttons! Don't worry, if you don't you still won't die!"
Sorry about that. This video is still great.
This video has about 13M too many views
ОтветитьLots of contradictions he made
ОтветитьThis video aged like wine. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom's overwhelming success validate his points to an uncanny degree.
ОтветитьHey @Egoraptor WTF? It's been 9 years where the F*ck are you?
ОтветитьThey added Bomb Bowling, dude
ОтветитьWow, looking back, having played practically all of the prior games. Arin is absolutely correct whenever he says, the Zelda series of games were the most handholdy games of all time. I honestly believe Nintendo watched this video and formed Breath of the Wild and Tears around it. I am glad Arin did some critical thinking retroactively on some older games with these animations, we do need more of these.
ОтветитьThis video's a classic and I love Arin, but he really missed the mark on this one lol.
I don't bow at the Ocarina of Time altar either, but he just has the worst reasons supporting his opinion. You can't just predict negative comments on the video and think that will clear you of all criticism for having a bad opinion (Colleen Ballinger proved that).
everything you said is so so true. i was so let down by ocarina when it came out, mostly due to the annoying camera angles/z targeting nonsense.
ОтветитьSo many years later, still watch this from time to time.
ОтветитьAs someone who didn't start playing Zelda until I was in my early 20s and having no emotional attachment to the series when I started I liked OoT and have played it a few times but the best was NES Zelda followed by link to the past(GBA) and then awakening (GBC) and then the ages/season games also for GBC i think i just prefer the older top down ones
ОтветитьI never noticed that he named link farts in this video lol
ОтветитьYou know, looking at GameGrumps, you think Arins an idiot. But if you listen to what they are saying, hidden behind all Arin and Dan's jokes and stuff, they have some neat convos. These dudes ain't idiots. They just PLAY idiots.
And occasionally, they are just idiots.
Always thought ALTTP was the best Zelda ever
ОтветитьImagine playing through a game where you don't read a single thing or learn even the most basic of mechanics because you're busy making jokes and telling stories to your friend... only to then go on and put out a super detailed review with tons of false information... Super sad to see just how many "Likes" this video has. It's a terribly bad influence.
Ответитьstory is also fun
ОтветитьL video
ОтветитьI miss him
ОтветитьMental breakdown with bomb bowling. Ha
ОтветитьThat little editing sequence from "The dreaded transition from the 2nd dimension to the 3rd dimension" to "...give it a z axis" still gets me man. So damn slick, especially how the timing numbers pop up right on the emphasised syllable of "quantifiable".
ОтветитьI know he said he'd never make another one but PLEASE! make another one.
ОтветитьThat's really good, nostalgia.
ОтветитьIt's so bizarre going back to this having seen hours and hours of Arin. He's changed so much and yet not at all. Super excited if he really is making another sequelitis
ОтветитьTell him about botw and totk
ОтветитьReminder that this video is still really stupid and is basically just half an hour of arin admitting he's bad at ocarinia of time and not that the game itself is bad
ОтветитьMaybe a controversial take, but Zelda isn't really about exploring and hasn't been since the NES games. It's become about exploring again with BOTW and TOTK, but for most of its run, the main gameplay of the series has not revolved around exploring. It's mainly about going to specific locations and solving puzzles there, and completing some levels. I don't even think OoT pretends to be about exploration, it's pretty blatantly guiding you from one dungeon to the next. The fact that people love the game in spite of that tells me that you probably shouldn't judge it as an exploration type game. It should be reviewed on its own merits.
Ответитьskill issue
Ответитьplayed ocarina of time when I was like 8 no clue how I beat it back then
ОтветитьIt's kind of cool coming back to this video and realizing that most everything Arin complained about has been addressed in BOTW and TOTK. Big open world to explore? Yup. Random secret caves that leads you through a complex catacomb? Yup. Opening chests quickly? Yup. Quick teleport? Yup. Less handholding? Yup. Being able to go to places before you should and risking getting killed in a second? Yup. Less waiting? Yup. Less gatekeeping/jumping through hoops? Yup. Goron that helps you fight? Yup. Etc.
ОтветитьPlaying Tears of the Kingdom and still coming back to this video, man can't help but feel Nintendo really looked at this when planning Breath of the Wild, maybe it was a coincidence, but its insane how much EVERYTHING pointed out here was adressed in BotW. Either way, thanks again Arin for this fantastic video.
ОтветитьYo, you should tears of the Kingdom
