Great video! I started coding when I bought my first course for programming on October 2nd last year, Automate the Boring Stuff with Python. I learned HTML/CSS in starting mid-November. Then I hopped back into python, not knowing what direction I was going to go in. The last week of december, on December 23rd I chose to take it serious and go the web dev route self-taught. Learned JavaScript by New Years (I was GRINDING that whole week lmfao, 5-8 hours a day), had some vacation for a week, then hopped into React with Brad Traversy's udemy React Front to Back Course the second week of January. I learned what I needed in a week and half - two weeks, and then stopped the course and went to build my own projects. I feel like this is why I was able to learn JS and React so quickly or programming concepts in general, as soon as an instructor teaches us something, I try to recreate it and tinker on my own, not just copy word for word.
After taking 4-5 weeks I made my 2 react projects, made my portfolio website in a week. Then I started applying. I applied to one on 2/26, in total I applied to like 20-30 postings, only one called me for an interview. It was 2 weeks after applying there, so I thought I got brushed over. Before that, I had learned SQL, NodeJS, Express, and TypeScript. Wasn't as good as I am now, but I was well versed in these and picked them up quickly.
Passed the HR interview, passed the "technical" that was just a portfolio review with the senior software engineer and ui/ux designer of my react projects + got to sneak in my fullstack project which they were really interested in, especially since its a react frontend position and i had a lot of their "nice to haves" with knowing the backend. Then I had an interview with 2 executives, had a proper coding interview with the senior SWE and ui/ux designer, and I just had the final interview speaking about compensation, salary, bonuses, etc with the execs. I did have to pressure them, because it's been a month, as I "got another offer and need to answer by tuesday" lol but they rushed for that interview today. The way they were speaking, "when HR contacts you", "then you'll do a drug test", "we'll send you an offer", "you'd start in may".... i think i have the job secured. I should be getting the offer on Monday.
4.5 months from mid-November until now, the first week of April. They have been dragging this process out a month I figured out today was because they wanted me to start in May not now, but otherwise I would have been done with this some weeks back lol.
5.5 months from my first line of code.
So happy I found this channel. I’m local to Dayton and grew up around Cincinnati. I’m a dad of soon to be 4. I’ve worked as an EMT for the last 7 years and I’ve been working on learning html and css. Any recommendations on male friendly meet ups in the area? I started out with freeCodeCamp but noticed it didn’t really suit my learning style so I recently paid for the web dev course through Angela Yu on Udemy.

ОтветитьYou're amazing.
ОтветитьIve been self studying web development for 2 years. HTML, CSS, Javascript, React, Node JS, Express JS, Mongo DB, Mongoose JS, Bootstrap and more. Looking at jobs online on Linkedin and Indeed I feel like I have imposter syndrome, also partially because the jobs all seem to require experience. I have a portfolio with a few basic projects and I have completed 1 big full stack application. I hope to land my first developer job ASAP
ОтветитьGlad you’ve come to the software development industry. You are amazing and sad so many people want to become a developer but think you have to be math genius.. spread the word through your videos it’s amazing 😊<3
ОтветитьCongratulations on your success, and I hope you inspire more people to become better coders. 👍🏼
ОтветитьHi, may I know how to reach you I have some queries about web development
ОтветитьFirst off shoutout to you for sticking to it and leveling up. Secondly shoutout to Keith for supporting you all the way the through. I love it. You just gained a subscriber 💪🏾

ОтветитьJust subscribed! I work in the legal field and looking to change into tech!
ОтветитьGirl I'm working at a bank right now and watching your videos for motivation. Thank you! You seem very humble!
ОтветитьWhy would you have needed a CS degree to be a web dev?😂😂😂 🤡 🤡 🤡 It’s the field that high school students can take an elective and learn ALL OF in one year. CS degrees are for real programmers and engineers. 😂😂😂😂 fuck that’s funny.
ОтветитьBecause she has a 400 IQ
ОтветитьI know im late to the party, thank you for posting this! Hows your web developer journey going 2 years later?
ОтветитьI’m a new developer and I reallllly appreciate you sharing your story! It was my second baby that made me transition also, best of luck on all you endeavors sis!!!!
Ответитьit sounds like you're saying all I have to do is just go to a meet up and hope somebody gives me a job working with them. What about actually getting certified? what type of certifications do I typically need in order to get a job interview for this job.
Ответитьthank you for your honesty. been feeling like quitting, i do not have any support and sometimes a bit of some self doubt but i know exactly that i want this and i can do it. Seeing where you coming from and where you are now this gives me so much hope and motivation. thank you 🙂
ОтветитьThank you for sharing your story!! God bless you
ОтветитьLima Ohio here! Glad to see ya
ОтветитьThanks for this!
ОтветитьMaybe as a junior developer you’ll only make around 50k (still pretty good), but I heard as you get more experience within 2 years you can get hired for positions much higher salaries like 170k. I was just wondering, what does it take besides experience to get the 170k job? More projects? What are the employers looking for? My plan is to get a couple of jobs, eventually get a high paying job and then start freelancing, so I can start making my own web development agency!
ОтветитьThank you for your video, I am at the same position in my life... something need to change
ОтветитьThank you so much for this vid!!❤️
Ответитьthank you jess, you are very lovely
