in the UK analogue systems went years ago and use TETRA you cant decode it even if you had an actual police radio, how im not exactly sure but somehow a stolen or missing police radio can be knocked off the system ..very clever
ОтветитьI think the police scanners should be having limited encryption instead of full because I can tell you right now if you fully encrypt the scanners that means nobody listens to anything but what I found out in Contra Costa county is they're encryptions are limited you don't hear what you don't hear the tactical channels you only hear what the police dispatcher is saying to their patrol officers. And I have already heard that San Diego has now gone to limited encryption not full encryption because they know what would happen if they went to full encryption. That is why I want to see these encryptions limited so that all you hear is the police dispatcher sending out the call to their patrol officers. And this is another reason why the American civil liberties Union also wants to see this stopped all together! That is why you are going to start seeing a number of states like California pass legislation to stop these police scanner encryptions. Because one thing I do not do with a police scanner is use it to allude the police! But you are correct criminals are using the police scanner to do just that they are using them for criminal activities and I I also hear that the same criminals find out where the police are at that to me is dangerous to law enforcement. What the police officer needs to do is start taking their cell phone and deleting the police scanner app from that phone and then let that same criminal know that we're not going to tolerate this any further, it should become a felony for criminals to be listening to police scanners and using them to commit a crime where shall I say they are using the scanner during the commission of a crime! And I'm here to tell you right now I am against police scanner encryptions!
ОтветитьAnything the police have access to, the common man should have access to. Period.
ОтветитьWashington D.C. U.S. Capitol Police Metro Transit police V.A. Police. Metropolitan Police. Encrypted.

ОтветитьYou make a lot of sense . Yes and no
ОтветитьTransparency in government vs. Secret police...
ОтветитьHow will we just take the radios away from all no more radios anymore. That would solve the problem right there. Cause if we can't listen, why should they have a radio at all?
ОтветитьNo I don't think that's fair
Ответитьfirst - terrific overview / explanation… very nicely delivered. thanks.
as to a model of local police / municipalities having a / some channel(s) encrypted, my going-in position on that is… that’s a transparent placation — those ‘special’ channels will be used kinda all the time… the norm, not the exception - leaving the open channel with only parking meter violations and other perfunctory nothingness.
so in this sense, it’s a Hobson’s Choice
perhaps I’m wrong in that… but I doubt it. 😎

The audacity of law enforcement to believe that their general duties / patrols are so top secret they deserve to hide their radio traffic from their employers is astonishing to me. It should be a serious criminal offence to mask general radio traffic if you're a public servant.
ОтветитьStrong encryption should be available to everyone. For public funded agencies, I don't really care if they use encryption or not, but if they do, their communications should be relayed in the clear or made available concurrently in some practical way. Absolutely no exclusions for 'sensitive' traffic at all - however - any channel or frequency deemed sensitive can be delayed and made available a short time later - within an hour or two at most after initial transmission. No secrecy allowed. Alternatively the encryption keys should be made available to anyone resident within the coverage area.
ОтветитьWell hello. Saw you .see you .
ОтветитьWe need a big ugly law suit against public information being encrypted and essentially denied to the tax payers that want to consume it. Until that happens the encryption will continue until stopped by the courts. TAC channels everybody can understand being encrypted, but basic dispatch channels should be in the clear. Media has the money and leverage but it doesn't appear they're doing much about it.
Ответитьyou would think if they can encrypt it then they can make things to decrypt
ОтветитьWE are the media now, the MSM should not have special access over any regular citizen.
ОтветитьThank you for the info. Very good to know. I recommend for safety, move out of metro Denver. I did over two years ago.
ОтветитьI think it's 🐂💩 they shouldn't be allowed to be encrypted
ОтветитьFirst and foremost, we all as Americans pay Taxes that support the Government. The Government should be Transparent in all of the Affairs of the Government to John Q. Public. Being Transparent in Emergency Situations in regards to the Public should be be a concern. I have been a Scanner Nut for many years. Back in the day, as a Tow Truck Driver it was more than a useful tool, in serving the public and many Law Enforcement Agencies when minutes count. Thank you for posting this information.
ОтветитьYour view is the common sense view. However, ALL government offices want power, and HATE being looked at.
I doubt we will ever see clear police freqs nationally again. (They hate when they are video recorded as well)
Thanks " I have family on the Chicago police department " It should be open " Except SWAT/HBT Situations! We the tax payer pay for all of this ! Every cell phone company charges 11dollar 911 tax . Plus federal grant money for communications up grades. All paid by Taxpayers!
ОтветитьDispatch should never be… sometimes there’s a call they can’t get to right away
ОтветитьCops want encryption so they can hide all their dirty deeds. I think that if they want encryption then their body cams should be on for an entire shift and the footage should be freely accessible. If your being watched then your less likely to be doing dirty deeds
ОтветитьCan I ask you a question?
ОтветитьI got into police scanners when I was a little kid never owned one until I was about 24 years old or something like that because my lake great uncle from Kentucky who is my mom‘s uncle he was a volunteer fireman and he owned four police scanners. Three of them were very old that used crystals. One of them was a programmable one from the 70s, and one of the first programmable ones from bearcat and I even went with him to fire calls a couple of times while we were visiting before we moved overseas to Germany and I was so fascinated by how they worked and how they scanned it and how you would hear live calls, and I got hooked Of course I also love CB radios to, but I never owned a ham radio. but I don’t think they should’ve encrypted those channels, because specially with things going on these days like shootings and stuff like that we should be able to hear what’s going on with the police in our local area and police scanner listening became my personal hobby. I even used to carry a handheld one with me wherever I went somewhere, I even carried one to listen in on a taxi cab van to make sure that they were coming to get me because sometimes a dispatcher will sometimes not send the cabs out when you call for one or when you scheduled him to come and then you have to call them yourself to find out where they’re at so I carried the police scanner to listen to what’s going on and also tune in on the taxis so the dispatcher would do his job. But mainly I listen to them because I enjoy them and I thought they were fun to listen to and I give a lot of credit and kudos to my late Great uncle, for getting me hooked on those scanners.
ОтветитьDude, encryption did not start or have anything to do with 9/11, you're confusing interagency/mutual aid coms with encryption, which have little to do with each other. LE agencies were encrypting years before 9/11 if they had the money. Beverly Hills, Santa Monica and other rich places were all encrypted by the mid-90s because they had the money. Long before 9/11
ОтветитьI think in the abstract as far as I can tell the police have the right to have encryption as much as they want. However, and this does not get said anywhere near enough, the founding fathers wanted to explicitly create a government afraid of the people and not a people afraid of the government. Stop and think about the enormity that statement. Who's afraid of who in the modern era? I think in order to hold police accountable and just be knowledgeable about what's going on in the community it's helpful if nothing else to be able to listen in. Also enthusiasts can help solve crimes as you mentioned
Now, sensitive stuff can/should be encrypted. But the government already just ignores Freedom of Information Act request all the time. If we can't even hear what's going on in real time what are we left with?
Unfortunately or fortunately you have just an opinion.. What comes over the open air and can be made intelligable belongs to everyone.
ОтветитьProgressive Democrat government wants secrecy.
ОтветитьSince encryption started in my town, I no longer have the desire to assist law enforcement. Let them figure it out.
We were/ are part of the solution.
Btw, I do support certain channels as you have stated.
Don't understand y they do this,
ОтветитьIs this setup still working
ОтветитьBut it’s ok for the government to listen to everything we do right? 😂
Ответитьthey also dont cop watchers like me showing up. and dont want the criminals getting them jump on the cops when they are coming.
ОтветитьI’ve been a radio enthusiast since the 60’s and lived the progression from analog to digital over the years. As a fellow hobbyist and well rounded listener in all aspects of radio, I believe all police and law enforcement should be fully encrypted and not for the general public to listen in. We all know the reason for this and in this day and age, I say encrypt all of it. There’s plenty of other areas to monitor on a receiver, scanner, radio whatever device you have. Stay safe!
ОтветитьAll normal wide area traffic should be open. Special Ops should be encrypted, but all encrypted traffic should be RECORDED for later analysis, and released to the public when any dangers associated with it are past, ESPECIALLY under an FOI request.
ОтветитьAs a solution for the 9/11 attack, American destroyed itself from within. USSA USSA
ОтветитьI agree with you
ОтветитьNote to self. Dont buy a scanner
ОтветитьThe evil police cult wants to hide their criminality and conspiracy. Plain and simple.
ОтветитьCensorship should NOT be funded by any tax dollar funded organization !
ОтветитьWe have a right to know what the police are doing. Ban police encryption.
ОтветитьCan u explain why if it's encrypted I don't hear dispatch but can hear cars jus fine?
Ответитьopen FM
ОтветитьI really appreciate this video. I have listened to police and emergency channels for over forty years. My local police department recently encrypted their transmissions, which to me is hugely detrimental to the citizens of our small town. For decades it has been the ONLY meaningful way to know what was going on. I agree that sting operations, etc., should be encrypted somehow but ours already were. Frankly I find it frightening.
ОтветитьIt will only get worse with Broadcastify.
Ответить🤨America is a police state.!!!🤔
ОтветитьLol. I assumed you were gonna say the encryption is weak. Hahahahaaaaaa
ОтветитьNo it should not be encrypted. I have listened on analog for 50 years and now suddenly I've got to figure out out to set up this Uniden BCD536HP and hope it's not encrypted in my area. I'm 68 years old. I spent a lot of money on this. The scanner always made me feel safer knowing what was going on and now that I am a widow I need it even more. We pay their salary and feel we are entitled. As you said, there have been many times the public has been helpful. I know I have. Sheila
Ответитьnow day, even with non encrypted police radio, all of the sensitive information are passed with cellular phone. that will put police radio just routine traffic. sort of boring to listen to. like California Highway Patrol. it is 39MHz analog FM, not many listen it in.
Ответить
