some of these are the worst kind of level to actually speedrun, from a mechanical perspective. because there's nothing there to actually optimize. you just hold down run and jump at the right time. sure, getting the right timing is difficult, but there's no way to deviate from the level's path to get a faster time. if you complete the level at all, you're usually within a few frames of the record

This is exactly what Nintendo meant when they said they had too many "Hard stages that basically ran themselves". They aren't actually hard, they just have a lot of stuff crammed into them while you mostly just run straight ahead without much worry.
