I love Lana. She's so creative. She evokes in me a nostalgia for my Mid-Century childhood and my glamorous, black-and-white-photogenic parents. It's like Lana inhabits their world and their dreams. My beauty queen mother, who was also a singer, died young, at 42, when I was just 12. It's like Lana somehow gets inside my mother's head and brings her to life in my memories. Lana is an enchantress. How can she so completely recreate the aura of time when she didn't even live then?

I love her songs and I really admire her talent for writing and touching people with her lyrics. But it's undeniable: she sings very badly! She is still lost on stage and out of breath. Anyone who knows an artist with vocal talent, notices all the juggling of the production so as not to leave it bad in front of the audience. It's her microphone extremely low at every show, a lot of backing vocals that sustain the show... Without them, there's no Lana! Lyrics like Born To Die, it doesn't even sustain 1/10 of what we hear on the radio.
