If dji act 4 use gimbal, would it more stable for low light?

I care a lot about the photo mode, but it hardly appears in the reviews. GoPro has 27 MP and DJI 10. and I wonder if the 10 MP includes dewarp... GoPro would also have more photo mode options. DJI wouldn't have an interval function, only a self-timer for 1 photo at a time? but does the DJI also benefit from the large sensor in photo mode?

Furthermore, it seems that DJI has less distortion when filming in wide lens settings compared to GoPro. that's worth something too.

Here's a low light setting you can use that will give you stabilize imaged. Manual setting. 4k 30fps and set shutter speed to 1/120. When the shutter speed is locked into 1/120, you will have stabilize image.

I have purchased the Action 4 recently, I was using an Hero10 before. And I do prefer the Action 4 over the Hero 10, it's much better camera in many ways. I don't really do much low-light shooting, so that's not very important to me. But all the physical buttons and touch react much faster, the Hero 10 had to much lag when trying to adjust almost any of the settings. The Hero 12 seems very nice, but I'm not sure whether I will get it, or not. I might just stick with the Action 4 full time. Great video, and thanks for sharing Rob.

The 13 will HAVE to have a bigger sensor won't it? Might just skip the 12, and last year's 11.

For low light have you tried adjusting the shutter speed. Try a minimum of 1/200. Also, I hope DJI does NOT add creative features, I hope they just stick to building the best action camera without the gimmicks.

I'm using a GoPro8 for my hiking channel.
Do you think I should upgrade to GoPro12 or DJI Action 4?

Supposedly the Action 4 Night Stabilization stops once you're past Rock Steady. It doesn't work with the Plus mode. Curious what settings you were on?

Looks like 30fps looks more natural than 25fps. We only follow the 25fps since the "user interface" is recommending the 25fps for 50Hz (not entirely sure what this means)

Let’s face it both suck at low light, one less than the other. Personally I want to use an action camera in the day. I want clear images and stabilisation without jitter which the DJI exhibits

Little thing nobody seems to be talking about that I tried out yesterday. There is a plastic lens hood in the pack, just like the normal lens cover but without the glass. If you switch over to that on very sunny days you no longer get any lens flare in your footage ;) Just remember to change it back over to the normal one if it is wet as camera is not waterproof if you switch over. Also removing the glass cover in low light is meant to dramatically increase quality as well as the iso drops slightly. However just be careful and dont drop camera.

The Hero 12 is basically a software update, not a new camera.

for low light tests, have you tried to fix the shutter speed? It usually helps with the X3 and maybe will help with the shaky images created with the RockSteady enabled.

The motorbike shots look better with the GoPro, as the Action 4 lens is too wide, the roadway right in front of you fills the frame and the landscape elements on the horizon appear way too far and small, when you pass the houses they look very distorted. Also the camera points too low. the Hero offers a better, more cinematic perspective (I have both the Hero 11 and the Action 2, def prefer the perspective from the GoPro).

Also DJI file size is double of the GoPro, without providing better image quality. Especially at 4K 60fps.
The better low light performance is useless when there are those jitters and stutter artifacts when moving. I'd rather have grainy footage than some stabilization or rolling shutter jitter.
The Hero 12 is a bit disappointing, but still the Hero 10 and up have some advantages over the DJI. The Hero 10 at US $249 is the best deal.

QS modes, magnetic mount, D-LOG.M, Fast Charging, Reliability …

No need to say more! OA4 is the better choice

That micro jitters are terrible, it makes the footage completely unusable. That's the main reason why I sold my Action 3 and won't buy 4.

For low light situation give it a try to remove the lens protection and install the lens hood (loosing the waterproof by the way) and/or shoot in manual, shutter between 1/200 and 1/400 adjusting ISO accordingly or as someone else commented remove completely the stabilization and apply in post with gyroflow (but only at certain given resolution/fps you can read when you turn off the stabilization

Great review and nice camera…like most action cameras it will still be challenged in low light and movement, it’s just a bit better than the GP. Hard to beat for functionality and reliability: video looks good too although I still like GP colours slightly better. At the end of the review all I really knew…was that I would love a motorcycle! Nicely done!

I got OA4 and the night shots, I use Davinci Resolves Noise Reduction, I just set the camera to NR -1, Sharpness 0, by doing it, it's damn good enough at night, but I hope they improve the hardware denoiser of OA4 or maybe OA5. I know a lot of people rely on the camera noise reduction for higher ISO, but try doing it on post, if might improve yours

gopro can surprise you, negatively of course! Everyone has been counting on a larger sensor and less noise for years (insta360 or DJI cameras, with similar-sized matrices, did not make so much noise). They did a clean job of updating the software and repainting the casing... what is important is the quality during the day, but everyone who lives in Central Europe knows that clouds are enough (and if you are in the forest, that's it) and iso at a speed of at least 1/100 (necessary for good stabilization work) starts to be high, and here GoPro loses terribly.

can the poor low light performance be the result of sharpening, de-noiseing and stabilisation? can u do the same test with everything turned off?

I wonder if you record the low light scenes with stabilization completely off and then apply it in post using the gyro data that's in the footage if that's gonna be any better.
