With the updates since this came out, it's better to farm with a double barrel shotgun. I got em from some undead miner NPC.
Can farm wood and ore, up to iron nodes. Not titanium or energy.
Haven't run the numbers just yet. I only started 8 days ago.

Bro just farm with shotgun, much safer because you are moving non stop. You take too much time with axe, and that is why people die farming with axe much more often. Good luck trying to catch farmer with shotgun even with glider you will not catch him easy.

I learn all about this by myself but I never went to the place to buy and sell and it was useful because I freaking farm spares I forgot how to spell it but I farm for so long when I get distracted
