Great movie. I know they shot it in black and white for effect but what if it had been shot in color.

There was a similar scene scripted in a Chuck Norris movie I remember but the other actor always ended up dying after the first slap so after losing several actors and stunt men, they wrote the scene out.

The scene where he dances on the oars of the Viking ship was unscripted, and done ad lib by Kirk.
He was VERY athletic.
He exuded masculinity without bravado, brutality, or meanness.

One of the greatest war movies I ever saw. It broke my heart when Kirk's character raped that girl... and she committed suicide.

I wore all the hats presented in this scene. Beginning in my teens, I read each script and played all the parts. I comprehend the perspective of each character. We all realize eventually, one can only play a single part chronologically, and time dictates the roll we receive, so buckle up, lieutenant.

Kirk was bad ass AND a very strong man, just look at his hands, only Franco Columbo had hands like that.

His real name was Issur Danielovitch.

A fantastic movie, albeit a little long. Spoiler alert - Everyone dies (well, almost everyone), and US wins WW2, but not during this movie.

When I first saw and heard the egregious John Kerry, I swear, it reminded me of this film, and the great performance of this slimy, politically ambitious narcissist Owen, by Patrick O'Neal. Still does.

When I was a kid I thought he and Michael Kirk, his son, were the same guy. 😅

Worst movie ever. Main character r*pes john Wayne son fiancee "in movie" she commits suicide. John Wayne's son dies... a real garbage film. Don't waste your time with it. Many other Wayne films that are classic gold. This movie is a piece of utter trash

A Classic John Wayne Movie everyone should watch.. It's one of my favorites.

If fake tough guy Douglas even twitched his hand back to strike me, I'd break him over my knee.
