Hey, the SSD featured in this video just died on me. I thought that was weird because WD makes good shiz. After investigating, I found that Mac OSX doesn't turn on trim support by default on third party SSDs. Only on their own SSDs and OWC SSDs. I'm used to windows turning on trim support automatically for all SSDs (I guess because Microsoft doesn't have a reason to make SSD manufacturers look bad. But apple wants you to think their own SSDs are better.) So make sure after you get done transferring everything; go into terminal and enable trim support.
ОтветитьHello if i clone my ssd to new and put to my old macbook will open
ОтветитьExactly what I wanted. Thank you.
ОтветитьHi thanks for sharing your info with regards to transfering data from HHD to SSD. I was planning to do this on my old Mac G5 computer. The last time I installed a new SSD and it works well. But I am a lil bit hesitant to do the transfer of my main HDD to SSD. So all I have to do is go to disk utility? And follow step by step with video?
Thanks
Great video! I did this to my imac over the weekend and saw this in my feeds and yiu just gave me an idea! I can buy a used MacBook and and save money. Thx man.
ОтветитьThe way you edit with the zooms and cuts makes the video impossible to follow and understand.
ОтветитьI agree that this is a great video. Thank you
ОтветитьHi my friend. We have mid 2009 MacBook pros. We bought all the necessary things to update computer. Memory, Tb drive and new battery. This unit never been upgraded so it still has snow leopard. Will we be able to upgrade operating system once we’re done with hardware if so how and where to find a step-by-step “how to” to do it? 😯
ОтветитьWRONG !! To format a drive for an iMac, Mac Pro or any other Apple computer you format an external drive to Mac OS Extended Journal NOT ExFat
Ответитьwhat happens when imaging fails :(
ОтветитьThanks man! Great video. To the point and easy to follow. Saved me $180. Seriously I thought since I was an idiot I couldn't do this, but did this all in 10-15 mins!!
ОтветитьAll the videos says just like that. But nobody understan that your new SSd is 999.98GB not 1TB then you get a not enough storage error. Then what????????
ОтветитьMy HD and SSD are formatted as APFS and it will not restore for the life of me. Please help!
ОтветитьFor the price of the adapter, I think is much better to get a case to convert your old internal hard drive into an external one :)
ОтветитьI have a 2009 iMac OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.5 Once I change HD to SSD will it only make it faster or can I also do Software Updates?
ОтветитьThank you for your input. Apples behaviour did occur to me (bad) Sad that they should resort to tactics like that. I was considering an M1 and probably will go ahead with that. But, if it makes any difference, I will disable Apples feedback options from now on.
ОтветитьI wish u could help, friend- Did all this recently- not sure what went wrong, but now my 2017 iMac will not even complete startup.....! Thanks for the upload!
Ответитьif your using high sierra should you use APFS to format?? i keep gtting an rrror messgae cant 28
ОтветитьSuper helpful vidoe! I'm currently running Catalina on my Macbook Pro mid 2012. I'm trying to clone my HDD to my new SSD (Samsung 860 evo 2tb). When I'm about to click "Restore From:" I'm not sure whether to go with Macintosh HD or Macintosh HD - Data...? Any chance you can help? Thank you
ОтветитьHi... have you used Carbon Copy Cloner ?
ОтветитьHey I’m trying to do this from an imac to a lacie ssd external drive...but gives me an error at the end. Any advice?
ОтветитьDoes it still take over 40 seconds to boot up?
ОтветитьBought Carbon Copy Cloner, and not also did this transferring super fast, I can also use it to always have a working backup!!
Ответитьhey man great video, any chance you can toss me a link to the toolkit you used and is there a way to just buy the tools need to swap out the HDD to SSD or do we need the entire set
thanks!
I gotta question, if I already cloned my new SSD, do I still need to connect SSD with usb cable and then unmount my old HDD and mount the new SSD which is connected to my USB until I install it? @will, The HomeSchool DJ
?
Wouldn't it be easier to instal the SSD and restore from a Time Machine backup?
ОтветитьI am getting an error apfs inverter failed to invert the volume - invalid argument OSStatus error 22
Reading online it says disk utility doesnt support restoring hard drives since apfs. Any ideas? Trying to find a way through this
Nice video! Super informative👍
Ответитьand what about of both are internal drive
ОтветитьOn my disk utility I don’t have the options of “extended journaled” to set up the new ssd I only have the option of “AFPS” haven’t been able to copy my hd to ssd
ОтветитьThanks for the video. It goes straight to the point in a very concise and informative way. Keep it up.
ОтветитьHi. It doesn't allow me to do the process because the computer indicates that my internal hard drive is encrypted. My Mac is running Catalina OS. What can I do?
ОтветитьNice video! It boots up a lot faster with an i5 or i7 processor. My 2011 17” boots up in 15-20 secs.
