I do disagree with some of the words you've suggested due to being crucial to write in specific sentences and I don't think those mentioned synonyms will be able to replace them. This is clearly a bit exaggerated as I am a perfectionist and I don't want to have any errors or any poor choices of words in my formal texts.

Actually Marina…
Alternative was always one. Originally in English alternative was only one alternative to a solution.
There weren’t 5 alternatives… webster now unfortunately accepts several “alternatives.”
But so did other nonsense words trickle into the language.
I repeat, there are linguists who still believe there is only one alternative to a solution.
When there are 2 pr more - we can call them solutions, choices etc.
