This Webtoon doesn't like Ugly People

Just for the record: These are reaction commentaries, not reviews 💀💀💀💀💀

If you think you are ugly, more or less you consider ugly people inferior. And your standard of a beautiful person is high.
What you should do is to look past beyond the face you see in other people and see their true worth in their personality. Value human behavior and you will find that just presenting yourself neat, clean and smell good would be more than enough (plus have a good behaviour) 😉

Y'all saying True Beauty is bad but the truth is, it's the mirror of what's already happening in the Korean society.

I stopped reading True Beauty when she started dating the 2ND ML. I didn't understand why everyone liked her. Her character didn't do anything grand or just something that will make someone fall in love with her. The plot is empty especially the characters.

I never saw the webtoon or fully watched the K-Drama for this webtoon, but there was a clip i saw about a scene in the K-Drama where the main character was putting makeup on an "ugly girl" for her recital because there was a girl who bullied the "ugly" girl saying she didnt deserve the main spot because she was ugly. And when the "ugly" girl ask the main character if she was ugly or not, the main character answered "Youre pretty, but you would be prettier with makeup on" and i thought it was really wholesome that the main character views beauty from the inside, not the from the outside and thinks the girl is pretty in her natural beauty and the K-Drama served its point across on true beauty but i was shocked that the webtoon did not convey that.....

All of the 'ugly' aspects could've been fixed with simple skincare and trimming here and there. She honestly didn't need to do allat dumb shit.

You have to be a sexualized underage and disproportionate anime girl for webtoon creeps to find you "pretty". And their attention is not something anyone desires.

at first it was all fun and good chapters not until she goes into one man to another man and even said "got catfish" when she got a blind date when she's a catfish herself.

I feel like the only webtoon that stayed for soooooo long and didn't get bad(subjective) was Lookism and i don't even want it to ever end

I know she tried a few times but she could’ve just had a good consistent skin care routine 💀.

In my opinion, the K-drama version of true beauty is WAYY better than the webtoon version of it

i was a devoted follower of true beauty but it kind of fell off to me when all it became was “omg which guy is she gonna pick?” it stirred away so much from her discovering her inner beauty

I didn't hate True Beauty, but I think the reason why I didn't like it as much as I could've was because I was expecting a journey of self acceptance, but all of that very quickly got shoved into the background to make room for the romance, and also so much of the comic was fluffed up with entirely unnecessary information (like the girl in the 9th episode, Sujin, she was hardly important for anything, but got introduced as an antagonist for some reason) to make it as long as humanly possible
overall I think I had fun turning my brain off and reading it as a pastime, but it's nothing to write home about

I didnt read the webtoon but I tried to watch the kdrama based on it and I just couldnt, for them wearing glasses and having pimples makes you ugly (always the same in asian dramas) and you are unrecognizable with make up, leave that to superman

The reason it is a problem because without ugly you can't appreciate beauty.
Without bad you don't know whats good.
This is a problem with anime and manga too. But unlike Manwha most Manga actually do a better job.
Also i hate manwha's because of how one dimensional they are. Beautiful girl equals to love interest ugly girl equals to glow up in future. Ugly main character means glow up in future. Hot Main character means they op asf from the start. There is no story except these it feels like.

If anyone wants a good webtoon about beauty try the cursed princess club. Its a amazing webtoon that honestly helped my confidence, it has an amazing plot and loveable characters. Amazing story about true beauty and insecurities ♡. Definitely recommend

Funny enough I never find the main character with makeup on "beautiful". It's like wearing a mask and she just looks fake with no personality

While I was watching this show I was constantly getting anxiety about my insecurities and was worried that if people will make fun of me ...This show gave me the urge to cover up insecurities and made me feel like shit tbh

So basically the author of true beauty had a choice to give her story a majestic, inspirational, strong and motivational plot twist for her insecure teenage viewers and many others who were seeking a great change in the protagonists personality and not just her face. rather the author kept it real. Jugyeong was insecure and that's what mostly insecurity looks like for most people, it haunts them throughout their whole life and it passes on for generations, the beauty standards exist even till this day just in different fonts if ykwim. (unlike very few strong women who are almost impossible to find these days, who truly embrace what and who they are) It's the sad reality that Insecure people remain mostly just insecure sometimes no matter how much love you give to them because at some point of their life it's just too late.
It was clear to us how she was bullied for her looks and the people who supported and loved her not just for her looks but her heart weren't there on time like Suho and all, and that was just her faith.
Like our favorite characters dying in a movie that without them the whole movie starts getting dull and i think the author portrayed that type of insecurity on point. That series has made me cry and i tell you no happy tears because it hits like a truck to many women who relate to such stuff, so generally a story about a really insecure women portrayed realistically but that's just where it ends. A webtoon covering a nasty topic so it made the webtoon itself, nasty in a sense generally.

This comic takes place in South Korea where beauty plays an important role in the society and their definition of beauty and the standards to maintain that beauty isn’t for everyone living on this Earth. Ofc the MC is insecure and doesn’t like her face often without makeup because that’s the society she grew up in. Everything doesn’t have to be about “giving a message.” The genre is drama and sometimes people read stuff because it’s entertaining. She isn’t a perfect MC but she goes through her own journey, overcomes her fears and has a happy ending with the love of her life. That’s all there is to it.

I started reading it when it first came out. I thought it might be likeable in later chapters...but
Spoilers:
1) I gave up when she started dating the second lead(forgot his name) just because he kissed her without her consent when she was drunk and the next day he was like "no we can't be friends anymore since we kissed" . They reuined his character there.
2) Not only this webtoon, many movies or drams with a plot with an "ugly" lead is always like...she never had friends, dumb and loser in life..and changing her appearance make everyone to like her and be successful in life like wtf🙃
it is realistically not right😭
3) I am girl who also don't fit into the conventional beauty standards. I too was worried about that in my teen years...but after knowing about the real world and knowing so many things ...I realised that I can be likeable and beautiful just being me...
These kinds of movies and webtoons only creates deeper inferiority complex in those people... we're better off without these and stop giving the attention it doesn't deserve.
So when the drama came out I didn't even think of watching it but it was better than the webtoon... And also she and the SL never date and remain friends. But then I am not a fan of love triangles😅

I get where your hate for webtoons comes from, but theres two masterpieces I think you should check out

I personally dont like this webtoon, i didnt finish it but checked last chapter to see if itll worth it and i realized it doesnt..
A lot of people seem to defend this webtoon, saying we misunderstand its meaning or that the title was translated wrong and the webtoon doesnt try to deliver any msg but.. it still does tho? It still delivers bad msg even if we presume its unintentional

A girl who deemed ugly doesnt just learn how to wear makeup but change her whole face to look pretty according to beauty standards and later shes scared the truth will be revealed and no one will want to talk to her.. and yeah itd be okay if it was a journey of accepting and loving yourself, stop caring about beauty standards

She doesnt seem to learn anything in the end, in last chapter she keeps on wearing the same makeup.. same makeup that alters her face to be "perfect".. and what its supposed to mean? Like what other msg it can deliver? Learn to love yourself the way you are but kept changing your face with makeup coz.. well, coz its cool?
Very weird plot for just a slice of life webtoon (as some comments claim its just a webtoon with no meaning behind)
Either way, they could make it better, and if the original msg (or absence of such) is different then the creator of thr webtoon could make it more obvious, coz the topic is quite sensetive

I’m going to be clear she couldn’t get help at all and I believe the time like is 2016 and it moves on from there so we technically didn’t have a lot to work with even during that times it was so limited unlike now💀 it kinda triggers that when people focus on the present and comments about it instead.

There needs to be some balance in the force, because everyone is straight up hating pretty people recently and I wouldn't be surprised if they went all the way and got violent. There needed to be some ironic backlash.
