Hello Games On Comparing No Man's Sky To Spore

I would love to just sit with Sean and discuss space games all day

Spore is one of the best games ever. And it may have been less good than otherwise because it was ahead of its time. Like how there was a better not space based sandbox to come out later - minecraft (the number 1 game ever). And sure better games using modern tech and game development may surpass spore, but spore was ahead of its time. And aside from games in entirely other genres I don't see any better games made before 12008. Spore was amazing without years of updates. No man's sky which I haven't played failed on launch to deliever. And I in my opinion from what I've seen never made a game that it aspired to be. Spore is one of the best games ever and it come out long before things with better graphics and such like no mans sky.

I wish SPORE got the NMS treatment too. Overhaul updates every few months that keep the game fresh. Instead we only really got 1 Overhaul in the form of a DLC. What a shame. The potential is limitless with SPORE.

Hey there both games with broken promises

By now he's earned his own chapter.

Both are my favorite games... Wished for long Spore could come back like NMS did. Wish Maxis had stayed "independent"... alas, EA.

Does anyone else think Sean Murray didn't lie? I feel like people want to think they were duped because it's an "easy solution" to what happened with NMS, but if I'm being honest I don't thnk Sean lied at all. I think he was an anxious guy who didnt really know what he was doing fully but he wanted to make the best game he can. Just look at the body language on him, he doesn't come across as someone who lies. I think he had a lot of ideas during development that he wanted to implement, not realizing that not all of them were gonna be in the game, and during those interviews he just got nervous. I don't know guys, as someone with anxiety, I can see myself doing this. You have to admit, if everything just 'went wrong" with the NMS situation yet Sean was telling the truth, it still could have turned out the way it did. I came to the party late, I only ever heard about this NMS stuff like a month ago, but after watching like 20 videos about it, I really don't think Sean lied. I think he wasn't sure how it was all gonna turn out, but he still wanted to answer confidently (anxiety does this to you, trust me), then when it turned out badly he bolted out of shame (anxiety does this to you too). Was it incompetence due to anxiety? Sure. Did he outright lie? I don't think so.

Ohh if that book is written you can bet No Mans Sky will be in there.

Just a shame it will be for all the wrong reasons.

And he had the audacity to talk about Spore.

Well congrats Mr. Murray, your game's going down in history but not for the reason you wanted.

Set the whole movement back 20 years? Sounds about right.

They have a lot in common as far as the developer hype not being as good as the game.

Unfortunately Sean, you almost single handedly managed to ruin people's perception about procedural generated games.

Can someone explain how the space stage of spore is different than No Man's Sky? It's literally the same thing.

Well, don't worry Sean. You've hammered the final nail into the coffin of "doing things procedurally" with your unfinished indie miner for $60. Damn, and critiquing Spore—your ideological predecessor which actually gave players more gameplay wise—is such a lame move. As lame as lying your guts out about multiplayer in NMS... Pathetic. Hope all of the harsh reviews beat some sense into you, guys. What a shame, man. What a shame.

If I was to make a game, I would make it a procedurally-generated Universe. But you can create custom ship, even planet-destroying dreadnoughts.

The Spore influence on No Man's Sky is pretty damn obvious to me and fueled much of my excitement for NMS, but in a complimentary way. I liked Spore, but I wanted it to be so much more. NMS is the Space Stage done WELL, which is something I've always wanted.

I think this will be the game that starts an incredible line of games.

i think spore sucked.. it was boring... You start off as nothing.. starting walking on land but the land was lame and boring.. had to fight and make kids and it just got to dumb and to crazy without leading to any fun gameplay.. no man sky might get boring at times but then i can get in my ship blast off into space and find something new.. not being stuck on a world having odd babys and eating things to upgrade like in spore.

So he says its very different and the only simularity is procedural generation but doesn't say how the game differs
