DSLR Dashboard App Review

i should probably give this video a dislike, but i won't, presenter is slow as a snail uphill, did he just wake up and not have coffee yet ?
Also the blog link is broken, i get a "You do not have permission to preview drafts." error and a link to the app itself would have been useful.

All in all a huge waste of time.

I recently bought a Nikon D7100 and am trying to find out if I can somehow show video I am recording on an Sony Tablet while the camera is in Live Movie Mode.

Would I be able to do this with this app ?

Thanks for the in-depth review of this app and the pros and cons of using it with a tablet tethered to DSLR cameras. While I found the substance of the review to be quite good, the audio could have been improved, as I had my MacBook Pro on max volume and still had difficulty hearing you at times. There is no question that these tablets and apps add a plethora of features that I never could have imagined back when I began shooting professionally. We used polaroid backs for "previewing" static shots, and we thought that was advanced technology. When the buzz began about digital - filmless - cameras, many of us thought the sensor would be in a film canister with a carrier/substance that just stretched over the back of the film plate inside of the camera, and that we would then connect the camera to a computer to capture our images!

While I will never be able to pull myself completely off eye-piece viewfinders, as there is just something about looking directly into the camera to frame a shot, these devices add to our arsenal of tools and can be used in a wide variety of settings. My problem with the tablet solution versus a dedicated monitor, such as the Lilliput, is the sunshade issue -- I have seen other reviewers develop hacks for these, but I don't like the idea of sticky velcro adhesive on my tablet because I do use it for other things and I use it in other tablet cases (sometimes with a keyboard). I personally would not use this set-up just for still imaging, but it is a must for video capture with DSLR and even higher-end, prosumer level camcorders. There seem to be fewer apps to control camcorders on the marker, but at least one can get a better sense of the shoot with a larger screen for previewing and monitoring the capture.

The best thing to remember about shooting stills is what I was taught years ago in my photo classes -- bracket, bracket, bracket your shots. While that was especially true for film, it still holds true for digital imaging. It especially holds true if you are shooting with flash, as bracketing flash is essential to getting good shots that minimize post-production work. I also bracket a lot of my landscapes, and low-light scenes just to be on the safe side. Memory is cheap.

Is there an aspect ratio overlay function like in the DSLR Controller app?

I'm on a nikon d5100 with a note pro 12.2 after I take a picture mine crashes.

In my opinion the basics should function way before all the iso settings and all. Why hook the camera up to a large screen if you can't even really use the big screen anyway because it's black 90 percent of the time. I rather have a functioning live view rather then settings that I can just set in the camera anyway.

how did you make the hot shoe mount for the tablet? 

I can only use the dslr dashboard for a max of 3 mins in liveview, then it goes black and have to restart it. Any ideas ?

does this work with LG G3?

Ive got a nikon d3200 and a samsung galaxy S3. Ive tested this app with an otg cable but it didnt work. What am i doing wrong??? Maybe i need to use another phone or something? Please help!

Connected my Nikon D200 to Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 with the USB OTG cable. Tablet picks up on the camera and I can view images stored on the camera. The dashboard app though will not give me a live view or allow any control of the camera. Am I missing a trick here or is the camera too old to be supported by Dashboard?

Don't you think you ought to learn the software before doing a review of it?  Too much "Ah, I don't mess with that" and not enough useful info.  Sorry.

What's the cord that you plug into the camera? Does it go into the A/V Out or micro HDMI?

So, every-time I hit the USB button to connect to my Nikon d3200 on my LG G3, the app crashes. Anybody have any thoughts on this? I would appreciate it.

Hey. Does the OTG cable connect to the A/V or HDMI?

I got no problem using DSLR Controller but it won't work when using qDSLR Dashboard.
As you know DSLR Controller will not work on Nikon & Sony.
I am shooting it wirelessly with DSLR Controller up to 1000 feet.
But with qDSLR Dashboard, only the exit button works.
Can you help?

The app is real pissed off because it will not attach wirelessly to my Sony a6000. Real pissed off that it won't use the QR code, as well.

The app is no longer free for Android. You can download, as of December 2019, download free for use Windows/Mac/Linux/Rasp Pi versions from their website.
