My mom used to pick on my dad because he used to keep total awareness all the time about lighting, door locks, keeping the interior of the house not visible while keeping visibility of the outside, even driving around the house before parking when coming home late and always keeping us moving fast when going in (open garage, no fence) and always reminding us to be aware of who and what was around us. He was not in law enforcement not of military background but single hand he stopped at least 5 attempted breaks in and multiple carjackers in the neighborhood with his S&W .38 special. Great info on your's and your friends Vid. One thing I would like info on is where to place yourself in your Bedroom to ambush the potential threat. If you do not have Kids and your Wife is with you, no need to go Rambo and go to the threat. Also address choke points in the home and the value of listening prior to moving. Something you did not touch on with the Dirty Civs. Sound might alert you to how many intruders and exactly where they are in the house or individual rooms. If they are not making any sounds, good chance they are waiting to ambush you. Who blinks first?

Interesting. Why isn't the first point to ensure your house is actually hard to get into? Strong doors, strong windows, locks?? Obviously bulletproof glass isn't exactly an option for everyone but there are easily accessible security doors and windows...if they can't get in, there's no issue right?

I carry a streamlight stylis handheld light, but my headlamp gets used 20 times more around the house because it keeps both of my hands free. The main problem using a headlamp is you have to press the button to turn it on or off and that could be a problem when you need both hands to be doing something else. I wonder if anyone makes a headlamp adapter cord that allows you to turn it on and off by biting down on a switch that's in your mouth? That way it's a hands free light that can be turned on or off by simply biting down on a small corded pressure pad switch.

Another good tip. You can buy light switch covers that when you flick the switch off it emits an led light. That can help you light up hallways etc.

Can you do a video on security features to have, such as cameras, locks, etc.

Not necessarily home defense related, but I camp and will even hike at night when camping. I have a headlamp with a red light, but what ive spent the last few years practicing is not using any light at all and really letting my eyes adjust to the starlight. It really has made a difference. Im a bit of a night owl and I do everything in my house, outside of my office, with the lights off.

In the past, when I always used a flashlight and always kept lights on inside, I couldnt see shit in the dark. But now, it's almost a non-consideration.

It might be worth training your natural night vision for home defense reasons.

Rehearsing an exit strategy with the occupants of the house is very important.
One other option to consider, specially in an urban environment, is to have a security system. from $200-600 a year it can be a major deterrent rather than having 15-20 guns (10 of witch you use once every 5 years). invest some on this (I know, crazy right?)
The noise of a home alarm does not only alert the home owner and occupants, but also tells the intruder they need to bolt

Actually came here from Dirty Civilian channel, solely because of the great advice and extreme professionalism of Drew.
I actually use the first advice very often, cause I didn't liked my neighbours looking inside.
One more simple thing is also ignore by many is to actually have a sturdy door, so that it withstands some blows to buy us some time.

Know ur floor wall ect layout...you should be able to navigate upur entire house in pitch black, i can and DO. Do it, practice almost sliding ur feet not stepping
