Paul, you are absolutely right. Angus Young is so simple in his song writing that he is actually difficult. Learn a whole set of AC/DC songs without racking your brain.

If like me u suck at alternative picking, just pick the fretted notes and pull off to the open b string, it means you can just use all downstrokes and it still sounds cool

What people don't get is that.... even if you can play a riff in your sleep, putting it together in a band and concert situation is MUCH more demanding than you can ever imagine. Live playing is a skill all in its own and it far surpasses the difficulty of paying guitar in your bedroom.

I find it h ard to keep the same speed constant.

Seriously the average person can’t tell if it’s completely accurate or not only the stuck up musicians so if your bread and butter is earned by entertaining other guitar players by all means learn it exactly as played.

It's not easily copied because he has been playing that shit for decades, pretty much a natural riff that comes easy to Angus, not necessarily conventional.

Angus brilliance. Another guitar master that is unconsciously competent in his playing. Eddy Van Halen was another. Repeated so often with great technique and timing, they don't even have to think about it - when on stage.

another riff that started out as an exercise is Sweet Child O' Mine. Also, IMO the hardest riff in Thunderstruck is what Malcolm plays beneath Angus's riff. It's only 1 chord, with no movement whatsoever, yet getting the precise rhythm and feel down is really difficult.

Funny, I can play Thunderstruck with some difficulty but the AC/DC riff I have trouble with is "Beating Around the Bush".... It's STILL one of my favorite opening riff of all time....

Playing this riff he tapes up every string but B. It muffs them out.
