What would make a ton of sense is a 4c8t monolithic cpu with this igpu at 200 usd or less, much like the steam deck. Why isn't amd doing that is beyond me.

Can the gpu access all ram? If so can it be used to tap on large llm models?

For gaming performance, it would make more sense if they made it a hexa-core complex with 12-14 CU and possibly a bit of extra L3 cache.
And, if they cut down the lower tier CPU only by 2 CU, not by 4, resulting in still fairly impressive 10-12 CU.
I think I'll buy R5 8600G even though the iGPU is significantly weaker. Fast enough RAM is not cheap yet, anyway. And yeah, it's my niche Mini PC use case.

The gaming performance seems really similar to the 7840/7940HS - I'd love to see a direct comparison. At the cost of 8700G, a new mobo and DDR5, I could buy a mini-PC with USB4 or Oculink support for an eGPU for future upgradeability.

This is amazing for people who live somewhere where electricity is not reliable. I lived in an “apartment” where my PC with a i5 4690k and a RX 570 would be too much load for the place. Knowing an iGPU has that much power is honestly amazing and past me would have absolutely paid for it.

At this price, it can never be a good choice for gaming PCs. Because it is possible to buy RTX3050 and 13100F for $330, which are much more powerful in playing games. If the price does not decrease, it will become an option for compact and low-power cases.

any idea if this could be cooled reasonably with a low profile cooler like the noctua nh l9a while gaming? this could make it interesting for portable sff builds

The elephant in the room: You can pick up a mini PC with the 7840HS for around the same price of building an ITX system with an 8700G AND it's much much smaller.

that igpu is really quite impressive. i see this being used in ultra small form factor builds. maybe even like in nuc style pc's later on. for someone building in a ITX case its probably not very logical but for those ultra small builds. if your a casual gamer and u want a tidy desk without all the rainbow barf then hell yeah.

Got mine coming tomorrow, along with an Asus ROG Strix B650E itx board and noctua NH-L9a AM5 Chromax to go in the Inwin B1 mesh (or BQ-656 which is what I have my 5700G in, though I may give that to my mate and it will save taking it out as I suffer from Lazybastitis :D). I have 32GB DDR5 6400 spare already and 2TB Samsung 980 Pro, and as I already have Lenovo Legion Go, I know what to expect performance wise for gaming especially at 720p, so for me, it will make a nice mini gaming HTPC and emulation beast given its higher potential boost speeds with over double the TDP, as the Legion Go has no real issues on that front, so I'm not expecting and on this.

For me the i3+6600 combo is not an option when I am looking for a compact system, though I can't deny that its impressive for the price and with and with a cheap ddr4 matx board and the rest, its a "cheap" option (around £700 when I did an as cheap as possible 32GB, 2TB "small" MATX build), though still costs more and still to big compared to what I paid with what I already have (APU mobo and cooler) which was around £100 less, though £300 more if I had to buy it all (case+psu, ram and nvme). That said, in these price ranges, a console would be better and cheaper for just gaming.

At 65W, these might be good if used at full power in thin portability-oriented laptops with entry level gaming capability.
IF the price is right, which might be possible, supposing the cooling solution is cheaper enough when implemented.

For desktops, though... personally I wouldn't even consider the idea.

Thanks for your videos!

Plus, the TIM isn't soldered, low PCIE lanes, dated PCIE revision. AMD think this is 2016?

On one hand, I appreciate AMD doing different things (e.g X3D and this) but on the other hand, depending on how stores categorise this it would be very easy for people to mistakenly buy this when its really not what they want. Its kind of over-complicating the market to serve an incredibly niche market (micro computers who want to game either on minimum graphics or old titles)

You didn't encounter the same issues Gamers Nexus did?

I would appreciate AI benchmarks and transcoding benches for home server use. Many quantized LLMs or SD can run inference on the cpu so an integrated gpu is not crazy for AI.

Anyone considering this for gaming PLEASE 🙏get a RX 6600 to pair with a Cpu instead. You will thank yourself so much if you listen 🙂(if you are at this price point for a gaming system prob best bet to look 2nd hand , can get - RTX 2060 super, 2070/super, RX 6600, 6600 XT, they will all be fairly cheap and perform massively better than this Apu)

Some people will buy it though and right this very moment it might game ok (subjective but it will game somewhat at least), but who is this even for at that price point? It's not even that it's crazy expensive overall - but for how it games it is crazy expensive and makes no sense. (meaning the concept of an Apu for gaming the price is good - but the performance doesn't meet the mark unfortunately)

Edit: Noticed though that while all Amd do in their Apu's is raise the CU count every few years, increase the clock speeds and recently update to Rdna series (basically negates the updates based on the time period it takes to update) the performance delta or how playable games are on Apu's has gone up a lot! - To me just a quick thought pops in, does this mean that Gpu's are gaining performance faster than the games are using the extra performance? ofc not in RT but in pure raster - funnily enough conspiracy theories could be read into it lol but idc about that. (4060 / 7600 failing to raise the bar at the low end springs to mind, the increase in cost of more performant gpu's and so on ahahhahaha)

The 6500 XT isn't that bad. For folks who can't afford a $300+ graphics cards, the 6500 XT is a good option, especially if they have a PCIe 4.0 capable CPU+Motherboard. The Ryzen 7 8700G solves that equation for most folks.
