How to compress files and folders in Windows

The compression option for Windows is great for servers with large log files you need to pertain. Only question I haven't been able to find out is, does it write a temporary file to disk or ram when compressing or decompressing files within those folders. If it is writing temporary files to disk/SSD, it could significantly reduce the drive life span.

I knew about this option but I was hesitant to use it in case there were any drawbacks. Thank you for this video I will turn on the setting for my C drive
