I bought 9 PS3 controllers for $40... how bad could they be?

I just bought 2 genuine SixAxis Dualshock 3 controllers on eBay. Probably paid too much at $30 each. One was pretty good, the other had the issue where the it makes the screen all jumpy. I had every intention of doing a full teardown and thorough cleaning. I cleaned all the plastic parts with dish soap, and the electronics with 91% isopropyl alcohol. Put in new batteries, and new thumbsticks. The jittering issue is often caused by the sponge rubber that is used to press the ribbon connector to the pcb being old and compressed too much. I fixed mine by taking a piece of a business card and attaching it to the back of the rubber with double sided tape. That was all it needed to make the contact better. The final thing I did was I used some fine sandpaper to smooth out the thumbstick holes, because they had some wear which made the sticks not rotate smoothly, and also the button holes. Both controllers work like brand new now.

immediatly when you plugged in the first controller when the cable entered the port my friend joined my xbox party and its like the controller made a noise or smth

My PS3 controllers are soo greasy from when my cousin used them, and the grease won't come off.

The clear controller is an afterglow controller and those require a dongle! I had that exact same controller and they're super cheap and fragile but they look cool!

What program did you use for testing the controllers

You made out even just two oems

Controller G probably wasn't a normal wireless controller. it may have used a dongle. And now, said dongle is now lost to time.

i actually do have a controller with P3 instead of the ps logo but like it has different cross circle square and triangle icons 💀

My wii u gamepad had the plastic mechanical bits inside snapped. I ended up replacing the stick with one from a bootleg Xbox one controller - it was sort of a bodge to get it working, but I've yet to have an issue since like 2020

Btw I have an official wireless ps3 controller that won't charge up when plugged in. I have to keep it plugged in permanently because as soon as I unplug it the lights start flashing and it disconnects. Happens in both ports

Is this the controller, the USB lead, or the ports? I doubt its the ports as I doubt both ports are faulty. Interestingly my laptop is like this too (works with the charging lead constantly plugged in but shows 0% battery).

Wouldn't be as bad if the USB lead was long but its really short

you could've just bought $20 adapter and use any controller you want like Dualshock 4 or Dualsense or Xbox Controller and so on they even work in Recovery meaning you don't need Dualshock 3 at all

When my PS3 controller is empty, I use a PS5 controller to play. It also works without a cable and is also recognized as a DualSense controller.

What software is he using to test them?

That is why i lowe dualsocks 4. You could drown it entirely in water an it will continue to work just fine.

Watching this kinda made me sad. Where I'm from, finding anything PS3 that isn't the DoubleShock 3 is just impossible and they often cost more than your entire package here. I have NEVER seen an OEM DS3. I've been hunting for a CFW compatible PS3, or even just a good priced one but they cost more than 100 USD and always paired with these sussy controllers. My biggest concern with the fake ones is whether they work on safemode or not, since I'd be doing that quite a bit.

I would say that not all 3rd party controllers are created equal, but if they say Pelican, Nyko, Mad Catz, or HORI, then i know itll be fine and not subpar. I bet that Nyko one worked well

The afterglow is lowkey better than a dualshock, aside from battery life a clean one looks better, lights up and is more ergonomic. They also needed dongles

You Can solder ribbon cables, but you need a little iron for that. A pinecil with a fine tip already would do the trick

My ps2 controllers all gave up throughout my ps2's life. Not my ps1 controller though.. it still works perfectly

Retro defender aftermarket controller has siaxis and pressure sensitivity buttons! It's $40 but was a life saver after failing to find any real DS3 controllers. Saved me while I'm replaying MGS2/3 HD

The blue aftermarket controller with clear case is missing the usb stick that needs to be connected to the ps3 thats why it is not connecting😂 i think they where called afterglow controllers

I got 2 ps3 slims for 25 euro, no controllers. I used a ps4 i had sitting around. surprisingly both ps3's worked and they work with a ps4 controller.

I have had so many not pairing issues with controllers

I had one of the clear ones, it was the best ps3 controller I've ever used

I have a controller that looks exactly like controller G, if it is the same one it needs a little USB dongle to plug into the ps3 to turn it on 👍
