WTF were the 10,000-15,000 Romans who didn't participate in the battle doing? Could they not see the carnage unfolding? I feel like they could have just forded the river and rescued their encircle brethren.

The Romans were pressed in so tight at the end that they couldn’t even raise their weapons to defend themselves

The only things wrong with this particular video of this Legendary battle is that Hannibal wasn’t in the back. He was in the front with his men in truth. Another thing is they didn’t show the Numedian light cavalry on Hannibal’s Right wing harassing Varros Calvary on the opposing side. They also left out Hannibal’s slingers and Romes Veletates skirmishing each other until the main Roman formation engaged with Hannibal’s line. Other than that this is my favorite video of this tactical masterpiece. It gives you a great visual of what the battle most likely looked like. And it demonstrates Hannibal’s tactics really well. At least the tactics they showed in this video. I’d love to see the Battle of Cannae in a movie.

It gives me chills when the Carthaginian reserves on the wings envelop the Romans' flanks and when General Marharbal's cavalry returns to finish the encirclement.

The recent Ukrainian Battle of Bakhmut was a type of Cannae, in which the Russians were able to draw in wave after wave of Ukrainian soldiers and suck them into a "meat grinder," but CANNAE has not yet been fully duplicated...NOT YET.

A nice recreation with some good acting but Cannae was a dusty battle. Clouds of dust hid the ethopian infantry allowing them to ambush from plain sight

I don't know how historically accurate the costumes are, but the production looks pretty amazing. Really doesn't have to hide from AAA shows or movies.

Hey wait a minute... that's Alexander Siddig! From DS9! Perfect man to play Hannibal. Very talented actor, and (imo) a decent portrayal of the Battle of Cannae. Some discrepancies, but quite good, nevertheless.

Eight legions do not equal 85,000 men. Normally at this point in history a legion contained 4,200 men and 300 cavalry. At the battle of Cannae Rome strengthened each legion to 5,000 men and 400 horse. So Rome gathered 16 legions not 8, with some 9,600 horse.

Thank god for the cameras they had with them back then.

I seen in a book and a documentary that 60,000 Romans were killed. It went onto say overall Hannibal wasn't successful. He chose not to march on Rome itself. He wrongly thought Rome would sue for peace as they were on their knees. Which let Rome regroup and realise how best to beat him.
