A Winters Embrace

A Winter's Embrace - Pictures and music from a winter's walk in Mendon Ponds NY.

I don't know why, but sometimes instruments just call out to us, wanting to be played. The piano... has always called to me, ever since I could reach the keys on my little 4 year old tip toes. That's not to say that after a few decades I now play flawlessly, far from it to be sure, but more often than not my happy accidents create new melodies, fresh ideas, and new directions for the music to wander in.

I often play at night to settle my brain for the evening slumber ahead. More often than not, I enter a place where my fingers are not controlled by my brain anymore, but rather driven by the music swirling in my ears, becoming an effortless feedback loop of sound and motion.

Interestingly, and because of this, I often have no idea what I've played after sitting at the piano for an hour.

So, to solve this little mystery, I placed a recorder in the room with the piano. The recorder automatically turns on as soon as it hears the first note, and turns off when the all the notes are gone.

Thus both you and I can listen to whatever transpired when my brain was elsewhere.
