Must Watch Travel Update to Europe in 2024 (Visa?)

We are planning a group travel to Italy and had a meeting about it today. We were told this program has been postponed to 2025.

Luckily I am a citizen of both the US and EU. :)

Now, I'm hearing that ETIAS will NOT go into effect in 2024. It's getting delayed until May of 2025. But, it could get delayed again.

My son served an internship in Austria this summer and is hoping to return in 2024, by way of another service project in Hungary - and potentially ending up in England for a study abroad semester. We have Global Entry and KTN numbers. Is this the same as the travel ETIAS?

Seems only fair. Europeans had to do the US ESTA form for years and the ESTA form costs three times as much. You also have to give the street address where you are staying upon entering the US.

Are EU citizens who are arriving in EU required to go through this as well?

Apparently the European Union has once again postponed the launch date of the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS). "While so far, the EU has continuously claimed the E TIAS would become operational by mid-2024, an EU official has confirmed that the go-live date for ETIAS has now been delayed to May 2025." There could even be a further postponement.

This actually really angers me when our southern boarder is wide open to anyone that would like to come to the US. this is in reply to how hard it is for travelers coming into the US. WE ARE HAVING TO GIVE MORE AND MORE OF OUR PERSONAL INFO TO GOVERNMENTS. I find it very scary.

Do you need to fill one out for every country you enter or does one form cover all of the countries?

Well… we Europeans are doing this visa to enter in US since 2011 calls ESTA

Note that your ETIAS authorisation will also expire when your passport expires. Even before the expiry date of that ETIAS authorisation.

Do I need a travel itinerary as a requirement? Cause if I do, then I am screwed.Since my employer approves off time a week before it starts. That only gives me a few days to get my ETIAS approved 😢.

Imagine that ... Liberals having to register to travel to Europe in an effort to secure their borders, but God forbid if they ask the same of all the illegals coming across the border from the south.

While technically it is not a visa it DOES turn the 90 Visa Free Regime into a Visa. Call it what you will but if you do not have it you are going NOwhere.

what about if you are in Morocco(passport needed only ) and you travel by taxi into Ceuta which is in Morocco yet owned by Spain?

I was raised in a flying family and have spent many years travelling like you. I'm also a duel citizen of the US and NL, and those of us who are probably already know that we fly with both passports. Entering the US we won't be required to have an ETIA, just as when we reenter Schengen countries we're not required to have visas.
This upcoming 2024 travel doc will be a simple, cheap and easy online process for those travelling into Schengen countries, and you've done a wondering job alleviating any stress around it.

thanks for the update and clear explanation! I'll be doing a trip to several european countries this fall-now know it's not required yet. However i will be doing a round the world cruise starting early January 2024 with some stops in european ports and imagine i will get this done as soon as possible . Not sure what the rules are if just stopping one day from a cruise port not an airport, but will be good to have anyway

Nobody has given Jan 1st 2024 as start date for ETIAS applications. The precursor EES (Entry / Exit System) Infrastructure is not even in place yet. It’s much more likely that EES will come end 2024 and ETIAS not until 2025

That s what our Uk gov did! Ridiculous as we re now a 3rd country!!!! Every year for at least 2 years they ve put date back!
