Considering lighter bullets...but if a 200" Whitetail shows up I definitely want 168gr...Bullets.
Ответитьi'm still looking for load data for a 6.5CM barreled M1a. my powder suppliers around these parts are pretty limited as to what i can find, Staball 6.5 right now is my choice. Aaaaand, i am trying some vermint stoppers with the Nos Varmagedon 110's in my .308 M1a.
ОтветитьMy 24” heavy fn spr shoots 45gr varget 2790fps in .5” easily…loadin the same 125gr@48gr h4350 gettin 2750 and brother 4 of 5 I couldn’t measure there so close in same hole..lol..I did run upto exactly 3150fps with 49gr varget but think I pulled the shots so I backed off as I’m findin that lends to tighter groups and I shot 2..one hole groups along with 3 measuring in the .30” range…you need to try the 110varmageddons as my crono won’t catch em past 3400 and I know I went a bit above that just no reading….close to 3600fps…barrel is 1” to .980” at muzzle..love .308 very much…
Ответить125 grain ABs and 130 ttsx are in my brass. I did retire my Abolt after last season though; replaced with a Howa super lite after almost 40 years of faithful service. It will still go to the woods occasionally for nostalgia.
ОтветитьNow go the other way 200gr ELDx 2400fps 😊
ОтветитьIs the 168eldm basically the a max with better plastic in the tip? A Max are known good bullets and I have less than 50 and can’t find em…
ОтветитьI've kilt enough deer with a 308 to see there's not much difference between a 125 and the 150, except that the lighter 125 grain bullets can detonate upon impact. The wound was smack dab in the middle of the ribcage and about the size of a softball. I seen it hit him in the scope and he really ran off into a hayfield like the devil was chasing him for about 70 yards and finally crashed.
I have finally realized that the 150 grain Sierra pro Hunter is about as reliable as the nosler partition for deer hunting. Never had a deer take a single step after getting it with the pro Hunter 150 gainers. Not one.
Hi. I has a significant projectile failure with Hdy 130g SST. Basically exploded on a deer shoulder at 120yards. It damaged and lead shot a lot of meat. I found, on special, some 110 grain Barnes TSX. 50GN of 8208 and they work a treat on Chital dear. Accurate and flat shooting out of my 16" barrelled scout at 3100fps. No meat damage to talk of and great through and through penetration. I've since tried the 110 TTSX through a 22 inch barrel for 3350 fps with great accuracy but no game shot as yet.
ОтветитьI load 125gr Speer TNT rounds to 900m/s (2952 Freedom Units per second) from my 27 inch barrel custom Tikka t3.
Absolutely lethal on anything I have shot (from Foxes, to Roos and huge Pigs) Very accurate with a 30mm group at 300meters. Rounds tend to run out of steam at around 400 meters but that range is for a heavier bullet (150gr +)
IMO just another positive attribute to the .308 being a highly versatile cartridge.
Will you burn the barrel, throat erosion more with 125 @ 3000 fps, than a bigger bullet like the 165 doing 2700 fps, just curious
ОтветитьThere's always 110gr Hornady. 3000+ FPS and certainly good for a couple hundred yards.
ОтветитьI have a 308 and i have acly it .I use 130 gr honende on 47.2 gr S 335 .I get speed af 3200 fps
ОтветитьHandloading is great if you have time an patience.
Finding bullet components is the other half of the battle.
I loaded up 150gr TTSX bullets in 300WM with IMR4350 and got 3350fps MV. Took a nice Whitetail buck with it at around 150yds. Notable was the fact that the entry and exit holes in the rib cage were the same diameter indicating that the bullet expands very rapidly. The joy of this load is the 366yd maximum point blank range for an 8” kill zone. 330yd MPBR for 6”KZ. 290yd MPBR for 4” KZ.
Now THAT is FLAT!
Fast/Light in .308 comes at the expense of sectional density and BC so you are giving up range and penetration for a flatter trajectory in the first 200-300yds. From a hunting perspective it looks to me like you give up more than you gain. I think 308WIN shines in the 150-168-175gr bullet weight range depending on application. I agree though… very versatile… 😊
ОтветитьHere in alaska use a savage 99f
In the 308s big brother the 358 win
It's a favorite rifle not too much kick like a 338
Good for bear moose elk and deer amd hits like thors hammer for bear protection at close range amd good out to 300 yds using 225 grain accubomds or partitions 225 grain tsx or 275 grain woodleighs for dangerous stuff .very versitile .
308 win with 120 grain Barnes tac-tx over 50 grains Varget. About 1 MOA accurate and close to 3200 fps.
This would be a fantastic 300 yard anything load.
Love to see some more light for caliber shows. Everyone seems to go heavy for caliber to get those high BC bullets. Love to see just how the light bullets compare. 110 gr TTSX in a 6.5 PRC or 7mm08. They'd be screaming but how about accuracy. The 308 did great for sure.
Ответить130 grain TTSX thru my 300wsm. Similar results. Low recoil insane MPBR. 3515fps. I have 2 years before I need to buy my daughter an elk rifle, probably gonna be a 308win with 130 ttsx.
ОтветитьI'm shooting Tac with 125 grn. BT and shooting 3260+ out of my .308 w/28 " barrel . BTW was not even near the max load but they recommend not shooting the BT over 3300 .
ОтветитьI have used 125 gr nosler bt on 300wsm as a varmint load
ОтветитьDo you really think you passed on any worthwhile info? Maybe for someone that never loaded. Otherwise it was a waste of time. Thanks anyway.
ОтветитьAs a young man in the middle 1970s I killed HUNDREDS of deer with a Steyr SSG 308 loaded with 110 gr. Sierra varmint bullets. My dad owned a deer preserve, and he seriously needed to reduce his herd size. I made hot loads with those flat-base bullets and -- with the help of a set trigger on that rifle -- I made head shots out to 200 yards. Super accurate and flat shooting over that distance. The deer heads exploded literally like they had hand grenades in them (and I was happy to use my shooting and reloading skills -- and pretty high class equipment for the time: I also had one of the first Kahles scopes imported into the US at that time), to maximize humane treatment for the animals. They never knew what hit them.
ОтветитьUm,,, 3030…. 👌
Lol- oddly enough, I rebarreled my 308 with a Krieger barrel and a Palma reamer. It shoots in the teens at 100yd..
Guy is fantastic, thank you for having someone who’s so qualified yet so humble and knowledgeable on the show!
ОтветитьHow about the 25-06 for a sniper to use fast and flat. And a low recoil round. 🤔 Good round for kid's or wife.
ОтветитьAnimal library ammo 100 grn going fast 3500 fps and reload 🔃 with 2000-MR with Fusion 125grn is the one for my kid's for mule deer 🦌 308win to 300 win mag for me.
ОтветитьBarnes are my go to bullets for hunting. Never found one yet. But when a 130 grain tsx can go thru a hogs jaw, then the neck and exit in front of the shoulder. And leave a hole the size of your index finger. DRT ( Dead right there) Is what I like.
ОтветитьI've used 150gr 30-30 rn for years at 2700 fs. It's great out to 200yds.
IMR 4064. If you can find rem 150 RN they cut bullet holes at 100yds.
What about 308 shooting 110g varmagedon
ОтветитьI loaded a 30-06 fairly hot with the 125gr NBT as a coyote rifle.. found it dropped deer fast in their tracks also.
Also made armordillo parts hang from trees.
I'm using 44.7grs of 4064 wit the 130ttsx..
ОтветитьBarnes 130 grain tsx 308 is my AR 10 hog round with Tac 48.5 charge weight. But miss piggy can't tote it. Bullet went thru jaw bone, neck, existed on right side in front of shoulder. Hole bigger than index finger. Hog didn't even move. (DRT) dead right there. Same with 120 grain ttsx from 6.5 Grendel. Barnes are my go to bullets.
ОтветитьYou owe it to yourself to shoot some deer with .308, 150 Super Shock Tips. I've had 3 deer do back flips. Most just drop or walk in a circle for 3 or 4 seconds.
ОтветитьI'm having troubles finding what powder that's available in today's market that works for the 110 gr v max and 110 Speer varmint
ОтветитьMy super fast light 308 Winchester load: 125 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip bullet, 51.5 gr of Hodgdon Bl-C2, Lapua brass cases, CCI-BR4 primers. Velocity: 3,242 fps average with a SD 14 fps for 10 shots. Typical group size for a 5 shot group at a target 100 yards away is 0.17 to 0.25 inches c-t-c. My rifle used with this load is a standard production Remington 700 Varmint made in the early 1990 with a 26 inch heavy barrel toped with a Bausch & Lomb 6-24X 40mm target scope.
ОтветитьGreat sniper story and that’s a beauty of a rifle !!
ОтветитьWhat twist rate was your krieger barrel ?
ОтветитьInterested in the formula of the equipment he uses to reload the 308. I will begin to reload my 308 & creedmoore
ОтветитьTry these… Flat and very accurate. 125 sst 49gr RL15 coal 2.770. NEXT. 130 Speer varmint HP 48.5 gr accurate 2520 coal 2.700… These are for my rifle only and I recommend referring to your loading manual for detailed information. These may or may not be HOT. Brass is LC MATCH fire formed to my chamber and neck sized only. Stay Safe!
Ответитьare you guys planning on doing the 308 high velocity vs low velocity load tests yet?
Ответитьlove it works great. just the right size
ОтветитьWould love to see you load the 130 TTSX from Barnes for hunting
ОтветитьI would think MR-2000 or N-550 would serve you better for speed loads
Ответить600 yards? I shot my ar-15 out to 625 very easy with 72 grain hornity. I am not saying that isn't a long distance for 308 but 600 yard should be easy for 308. I hope my rpr shoots out to 1600 yards at least. Still anything around 3000 fps is pretty amazing!
ОтветитьA-10 308... 155g Palma by Sierra, Lapua Brass, Sm primer, 42+-g Varget, Mule deer at 525 one shot through shoulder and chest. 2700fps
Ответить⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
ОтветитьWould your shoot elk with this load? Is so what’s your max range?
Ответить10x swfa best scope for the money for a long time
Ответить
