One of the few nitpicks I had about this movie was the fact that the cloak/shroud wasn't always present. Since they decided to CGI it that only makes sense because of the budget.
My idea for a new Spawn movie would be to actually have a material cape slightly animated by puppeteers when he is in relaxed mode to still show that it is a living being. Then, when he actually has a battle, they could CGI it like this as more frantic being in offense/defense mode.

When your visual effect sucks, you have to shoot almost the entire movie in the dark.
