Advice for everyone wanting a off grid life.
Don’t apply or tell local council anything keep low key and quiet
Pick land that’s in a quiet place
Be friendly but don’t give to much details about yourself to locals
Build a modest shed with a flat but sloping roof maximum 7’ at highest end in sight behind a hedge for example with doors open away from eyes and blackouts for windows for the evening
We use avantree headphones whilst watching programmes so we are quiet in the evening
I built a little wooden stall by the gate and sell some of our produce
Have some animals like hens goats etc
Always donate to the local community this makes you respected
All these things help you in one way or another

Something I forgot to mention. Neither enforcement officers or planning officials have the authority to refuse a planning application. The elected members ie. councillors, are the planning authority and only they can say yea or nea. Don't let them pass the buck to the officials.

I went off grid electric about 15 years ago and had regular visits from EON to see why I was paying £3 a month grid. I never apply for any planning permission after they built 20 houses in front of me on Green Belt.

The problem is not just living off the grid they want you to pay taxes because you are still part of the system, you use public services and this has a cost that we all must pay.

A .Gov petition needs to be created. Then as many as possible need to sign. Public servants need to listen.

The problem is that the big land owners also own the law. Gaining planning permission is a political decision and the same people are benefiting over and over again. Look at the difference in cost between agricultural land and building plots per acre. EVERYONE in the country should have the right to buy a plot of land at agricultural prices and build a home for themselves on it! Government should compulsory purchase (at a fair price) blocks of land and subdivide into plots. Unfortunately they are more concerned about serving their masters who drip feed plots into the market at top dollar ridiculous prices.
