What button do I press to pick up stones from the ground ?

The Island is a bad place to start.
If you look for a really easy start, go to Ragnarok, spawn on the Highlands-Beach and look to the ground. There should be carrots nearby.
Pick them, put them on the last slot, go to the grassy area and start looking for a horse. Sneak up behind it, give a carrot to it via hotbar, immediately jump on and as soon as it starts jumping wildly, give another carrot via the same method.
You will have to ride around and feed carrots for a few minutes, but then you'll have your first Partner.
The horses are really powerful. And they don't require a saddle.
You should be able to handle most of the mid tier dinos. Make sure you level up Health, meelee damage and weight of your horse.

I do have a question, I just got into Ark its part of games pass. Mostly for Halo MCC, But ark Was a part of it, the one thing I notice, is I don't see the map it is reviled as I explore it. I wonder is that something in the options, or in the settings before I start to play?

This game is horrible. Terrible UI and mechanics. Other players wall off starting area so you can't move and such and unrealistic amount of Dino everywhere. Every third step is into a Dino! This game is a Satire of games that waste your time and the Devs are laughing at their player base. It is just ridiculous stupid BS everywhere I look. /uninstall
