DJI RS2 Expansion Base Kit Unboxing & Setup

Thanks! Just pulled the trigger on this kit. Being able to use the remote follow focus from off the ronin will be super rad.

Can you use the short cable to connect the battery to the ronin plate ?

Is the gimbal secure without the stiffner? I mean it is locking in like the battery grip would so I wonder is it safe to use it without the stiffner so you can free up the natos for handles?

And you should always keep in mind: When you show a part, you should always shake it vigorously. Your audience will recognize it and its parts much better if it is well shaken. ;-)

Is there a trick to installing the nato onto the side of the gimbal? For some reason it’s hard to allign the pins

The joystick feels a little jerky, I wish it was more of a analog like the ronin 2 for more precise smooth movements . A mimic would be nice also

Great Video ! does the tethered controller dial wheel and joystick use the speed set on the RS2 gimbal? for example if dial wheel and joystick speed are both set to 65 on the RS2 will the tethered controller dial wheel and joystick have the same control speed as if using the actual RS2 dial wheel or joystick?

the battery Power adapter is so stupid. The tethering set for the original Ronin-S was much better designed imo.

They already sell a Control Handle that you can buy stand alone it's called the DJI Ronin Tethered Control Handle. I bought it about a month ago with the bars love it. Nice video keep up the good work.

Really nice video. Only a bummer that the extension grip has no screen to change settings on the Fly. So you'll still have to use your phone on set and this is not the most professionell solution. But all in all by far the best video about the kit. 👌🏽🤙🏼

Is there a good way to mount the battery grip on the main gimbal with the extension kit on? I wanna keep it close to the gimbal. Don't need to use the control handle either.

And he showed no way how to use it. No sample footage. What's the point?

Im curious about the overlap between the Tilta ecosystem and the DJI expansion kit... anyone know if youll need the expansion base to use any of the Tilta accessories? I'm intrigued by the advanced ring grip and the hydra alien platform but I really dont want to have to buy the DJI kit as well. Im guessing you dont need it, but some more details from both companies would go a long way.

I have to recheck my box, as I didn't see the screws in the packaging. Glad I saw your video. BTW, the dual grip kit will have a left handle that easily rotates to briefcase mode (with the flip of a switch), and the handle from the expansion kit will remain stationary on your right.

Update: The screws were attached to the base plate. Smh

i am very disappointed by the fact, you have to use a cable to control the gimbal or even two to power the ronin. the ronin 1, M, and MX for example, could be mounted without any cable, or expansive tools. just get an adapter plate, use the controller which is included and you are ready to go .
also, why they do not include a battery for the second handle, so you can use it wireless or extend its run rime when plugged in? it is almost expansive like the RS2 but looks like a product from 2010, not adressing the needs of 2020.

i own the rs2 but still, the ronin m beats the ronin rs2 in all terms. you can go briefcase mode without changing handles and replace all batterys. you will save much more money and still, it is more stable

Hey bro give me a huge favor. Connect Raven eye to your Canon EOS R Make sure you can see everything in the little screen on dji And then then push play button on your Canon Eos r or menu button and let me know what happened 🤣 you will encounter a lovely glitch.

Any idea if you can use this to connect to any other batteries (v lock for instance), like the ronin s 1 extension could?

It would be great if DJI would come out with a motorized slider/dolly that integrates with their gimbals for multi-axis motion control...

Im very much interested in this for building harness carried gimbal on a steadicam. It would make the head rest lower on the steadi without the battery inbetween., and then have the control handle somewhere lower on the steadi arm for easy access (arri trinity knockoff build with controls at the fingertips) But it seems like its going to be difficult to power it. Youd have to carry two sets of cables back and forth between the gimbal and the other end of the steadi system where the control handle will be? Is there any chance you can use the 30cm cable between the control handle and the battery, and then only have one 5 m cable go back to the gimbal, carrying power all the way?

On the Ronin S you could simply attach the battery underneath the tethered control handle.

When using the Ronin S, the gimbal head can be moved by turning or tilting the handle in addition to using the joystick. Does the remote handle support this movement or is driven movement entirely via the joystick?

I wanted to order the Ronin-RS2 as an upgrade from the Ronin-S ... but when I saw, that the power support for cameras is only 1 x 5V/1A instead of 2 x 12V/2A, I'm waiting with my upgrade. Certainly enough for many users, not for me with my bmpcc4k setup with universal mounts. Maybe a RS2-Pro will be released? ;)

You can also use this set with both control handles left and right of the gimbal and no battery under it. You should show that setup on a new video.

Why don't you use the RS1 dual handle? It fits perfectly i think.

Also I got a engineering question for you. I accidently did a balance test with the pan axis locked (other axis's unlocked), It produced some weird mechanical sounds. Do you know if this would damage the motors? After this situation, that's when I noticed the horizon wasn't level! (first time setting up RS2)

Hey man, did you have Rs2 Horizon levelling Issues? I was wondering i may of found a way to fix it, swipe left and go into more, then manually tune, and adjust degrees until it's level. Could you please check if this helps fix the problem? (I feel like I'm doing it wrong) Cheers

My RS2 comes in the mail Monday so im excited for that. im looking to buy this setup but im going to wait for the ring grip attachment from tilta first. looks like you can buy one with a control grip in it. gives me a choice if i want to use it like a ronin M or S depending on the shoot which i like
