Some of those extremes are costing more than just paying for the increase in fuel consumption, truly getting better fuel mileage is a process that takes most drivers a good 20 years of careful study and analysis, let me just say that the best things I have found are light foot on the throttle (easy acceleration), stop anticipation (letting off the gas early), and keep up on the maintenance (such as oil changes and proper tire inflation).
ОтветитьI've been doing this for 30+ years. My Honda Civic gets over 40mpg in almost every tank, has 360,000 miles, and it REALLY saves (Note: the EPA for my year was 32city/38hwy mpg) If people SLOWED down on the interstate, they would get better mileage, and have fewer accidents!
ОтветитьYes, let's talk more about the "junk in your trunk" 😊
ОтветитьFa
ОтветитьRemove the passenger seats, spare tire, car jack, tools, carpet, Kris Van Cleave, the camera, all the junk in trunk.
Also modify to a smaller…. Yes I know, it means more fill up, but it’s less weight.
Also the driver can loose some weight.
In my country our speed limit is 50 mph
ОтветитьCruise control is super helpful. Leave earlier in the mornings to avoid the traffic that makes you stop at lights. Turning left on red is a strategy too...not that I ever do that...often.
ОтветитьIs that really possible tho? Can that price do 110mpg in city driving no matter how economic one drives? I really doubt it but if thats true mann those priuses are really something else….technically that guy can drive from new york to LA in a full tank and half of gas.
ОтветитьHypermiling is such a fun beamng mission they made it a real thing
ОтветитьHow is this extreme?
ОтветитьAdditional tips of mine:
1. Downgrade the engine/motor - If you're not using much power anyway, what good does that big heavy powerbox serve?
2. Keep the fuel in your tank low - Fuel carries weight of its own you know. 😆
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) J U N K I N T H E T R U N K ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
ОтветитьIf it is stupid but it works, it is not stupid..
ОтветитьMy dad always goes behind a lorry to capitalise on its slipstream lol. And coasting down hills, going scarily fast near the Bilbao-Santander motorway.
ОтветитьIn my ol 98 subaru i get about 38 mpg by avoiding going over 2k rpms . Can cruise at 1900rpm at 60mph and 1600 at 55mph. Inner city driving i get about 28mpg, but i try to keep a balance between maxing my mpg and not making everyone in town hate me. On highways i could care less cause they can just pass me lol
ОтветитьHe drives a prius. That's cheating! Not everyone drives a prius!
ОтветитьAside from all the extreme hypermiling techniques just simply not racing up to lights and stop signs only to slam on your brakes is a huge help. Just cutting that bad habit will boost your mpgs 20-30% plus less wear and tear on the car.
ОтветитьLike the fast overtaking lane there should be a slow / economy lane where driver don't drive aggressively up your rear end.. maybe use a sticker of 55 mph on the back window area so they know what your doing.... you could also strip out carpets and plastic going to the bare shell.
Ответить“They’re not buying my gas” this guy is hilarious but has a point 🤣🤣🤣
ОтветитьHe not lying I got 29mpg in my minivan on the way to work I tried it tonight,I drive a hour to work..I was crying last week because before I did this It was costing $30 per day back & forth ..now it’s $15 for 2 hours a day!🥰🥰 I’m only working at the site temporary till the one near my house open in a month or so
ОтветитьI would of done the same if the fuels were 6.29
ОтветитьI love that the reporter at the end gives the least effective fuel saving tip ever. Shows how much they learned from the hypermiler guy, lol.
ОтветитьExtra weight only has a significant effect if you're the kind of person who stamps on the brakes all the time. Don't ditch the spare wheel or anything daft, just reduce your brake use.
I remember driving home in my Toyota Aygo with about 200kgs of compost... I usually get 70mpg but decided to try a hypothesis that you could use extra weight as an inertial battery... I got 85mpg on the 20 mile drive home so ~15mpg more by carrying an extra 200kg. The theory was that you could store more inertia at a high engine efficiency (~2,500rpm and 75% engine load) and then use the extra weight to coast further in fuel cut off mode (in gear coasting).
Driving slower than other traffic on the interstate jeapordizes everyones safety.
ОтветитьJust don't! Lol I drive the prius and I know the gassaving tip but it is a big safety risk on the highway
ОтветитьCheap skate Douchers. Ill run 1 of these a holes off the road if i ever see someone driving like this
ОтветитьWhy does that new Prius get such POOR milage, my 2013 Chevy Volt will average over 250MPG in the city and over 150MPG on the freeway at 70mph. Maybe he needs to BUY AMERICAN.
ОтветитьJust get an electric car and solar panels 🙄
ОтветитьYep it’s been a year and a half and we’re starting to really feel how great the democRats “build back better” plan is working out 👍
ОтветитьNothing about increasing tire pressure? Another one is keeping your car in a garage if you can. They didn't talk about AC or heat (in plug-in hybrids like was shown) and garages help.
But I wish more people would coast to stops and anticipate lights.
Or don't buy a giant SUV
ОтветитьThanks for the tips. Every dollar I save by using less fuel is every dollar in my pocket plus every dollar less in some Evil dictator’s pocket.
ОтветитьI am surprised this guy didn't throw Kris Van Cleave out of this car... All that extra weight of Kris is killing his MPG.
ОтветитьHypermiling can be dangerous. I have heard of hypermilers ignoring red lights & stop signs.
ОтветитьClarification:
"Coasting downhill" in neutral in a modern car burns MORE fuel than leaving it in gear (where computer shuts off fuel injectors in such a scenario).
Also, is the piece unaware that this PLUG-IN Prius is showing overall MPG (which doesn't reflect the initial 25-ish miles driven on pure plug-in EV mode each day)?
If that's the case, then my i3REx gets 983 mpg since we drive only 5% of time on its gasoline range extender annually, with the vast majority on the overnight electric charge.
I kept looking for the "extremes" this guy was going to, and found he emptied his trunk, slowed down to avoid stopping at a light, coasted down hills and drove the speed limit.
THAT'S the extreme with $6 gas? What world do you think we still live in?
It's fine until you become THAT guy and endangering everyone around you... I'm not talking 55 on the freeway IN THE SLOW LANE, I'm talking braking a mile before your turn creating a huge train behind you THAT guy...
ОтветитьHypermilers usually damage their engines and the repairs cost much more than the fuel they saved.
ОтветитьHe might be averaging 110mpg, he is got 220+ drivers trying to flip him off. What a world we live in - Tesla drivers rocket off to the next red light while a Prius drivers turtling away and trying to cause traffic jam.
ОтветитьI used to own and drive a Prius Eco and got an average of 55 mpg. But I was still buying gas. So last September 2021 I traded in my 2020 Prius for a Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus. No more gas for me and I am driving the best car ever in my life. I had driven a Porsche 911, Chevy Corvette, and Mercedes. None can compare to my Tesla Model 3. Oh I spend on average $12.45 to fully charge the batteries. I love it. I can drive as fast as the traffic and zip by others at will. Oh, I hardly step on the brakes anymore. Regenerative braking happens when you take your foot off the accelerator and it takes a bit to get used to. But the side benefit is less wear and tear on the brake pads. I may not need brake pads for a long time. The best part is the appreciation of the vehicle. If I sold my car today I can get $10,000 over what I paid for it. It is such a crazy time.
ОтветитьForget to mention what kind of safety hazard driving like that causes…
ОтветитьI use my cruise control whenever possible, avoid jack rabbit starts, and drive safely. Driving like a sloth is just as stupid as driving like a cheetah. Going to extremes, whether too fast or too slow, just puts other drivers in harms way unnecessarily.
ОтветитьHypermiler or not, a lot of people can't afford an EV like the administration wants. Poor policy choices is the reason gas is high. On the other hand, EV's doesn't sell well with gas at $2.00 - $3.00 a gallon. Maybe homeless people should head out and buy a house! Same thing!
ОтветитьThanks to the Biden administration $7 a gallon 👏
ОтветитьOmg!!! The slow Prius drivers!!!
ОтветитьThe guy needs to pay attention to his maintenance required light.
Ответитьwalking is free
ОтветитьIn a hybrid you can get a lot. When I had one I was getting 50-60mpg. But at the same time people in the U.S. drive like a--holes and still want to get 40mpg
ОтветитьCRIS VAN CLEAVE WITH THE UPDATE OF.... JUNK IN YOUR TRUNK 😁😂🤣
ОтветитьMuslims await Jesus peace be upon him. Son of virgin Mary, the True Messiah. Who was never crucified. Some groups await the Dajjal, the false Messiah. Who is blind in the right eye. Hence the one eye symbol which we see around us. Also on the dollar bill.
