LEICA Q2: HONEST Opinion 6 Months Later

Do you think the Leica Q2 is worth it?

Absolutely puzzling to me why would anybody dish out so much money on a point and shoot camera. Same goes for Q3. Folks that are attracted to this are the ROLEX equivalents of the photo products.
Absolutely not worth it.

Film Leica it was the Leica, now it is not the same Leica. Only the name remained.

Honestly, thank you for this video. As an aspiring photographer who dreams of this camera your video opened my eyes on a lot of things I did not know about this little beast!

I’m a professional photographer with 30 years plus experience I would never in a million years get a Leica!

This is one of those things you want to love but there are too many deal breakers and you try to rationalize them away with the "less is more" argument. Yes, not having to schlep and frequently switch around a big bag of lenses can definitely result in more meaningful photography but I learned to just slow down and stop shotgunning my subjects. I no longer own a Leica and I sold off my beautiful 4x5 field camera.

An interesting camera, but the "Leica Look" can be achieved in Photoshop if you know what you're doing. The Q2 doesn't give you any better IQ than most other cameras made over the past five years, IMO, there's a lot of hype attached. Having said that, I am considering getting one, for the feel of using a real metal old-school basic camera, over a cheap plastic toy that most other cameras feel like these days.

What you described as "The Leica look" is something perfectly achievable with any other camera. Leica cameras are beautiful and sleekly designed tools that allow use top quality lenses. The added prestige around them is what we so many times fall for, but we all know you don't need a Leica or any other specific brand to be a good photographer. These things are just kind of fun for us. We love the gimmicks.

Yah, I dont get the whole Leica story. Not in the age of digital photography. 45 mpx, rich colour, build quality… man, at the $4000 level up, which brand does not? Wedding photography? Are you serious? No. Its purely a snob camera. If Canon or Sony produced this…. can you imagine the reviews? Oh thats right… it is sort of a Sony…

I'll stick with my contax 28mm, but I do love this camera

The cropping to 35 and 50mm and so on is nice but wouldn't it be the same/similar to just go between 16:9, 3:2, ,and 1:1?

The Leica look can be achieved by anyone with decent Lightroom skills, and Lightroom plus a great Canon/Nikon/Sony system costs significantly less than a Leica system. I'm a professional shooter and will never recommend Leica to any of my friends and family unless they are stupid rich.

I bought a Q back in 2018 and took it to Vietnam as my only camera on that trip. Great images, super low light performance. I’m excited to see the Q3.

What is the camera strap you are using?The Q2 leather strap is uncomfortable.

I'm sure this has been said. The Lieca is a 28. It's the Sony 24 that's not a 24.

Great honest review you just earned a sub. Definitely cool camera but $6K?? I’ll probably take much better photos taking photography classes and invest in a couple of prime lenses

Been trying to get a x100v having thought hard about the Q2. Been on the waitlist at Adorama for 5+ months now and don't think I am any further up the list. I don't think they are making x100v any more if I didn't know better and are soon to announce the x100(?).

One of the smartest and most honest reviews I've ever seen on Q2; you are one of the very few who talks about the actual probable focal length of 24/25 mm. Compliments!

I did consider Q2 but as claimed it is more 24mm than 28mm, which is more frustrating. I would prefer more tele and 35mm would be perfect. I am a current user of RX1R and more suitable for my daily use, especially for street photography

I wonder what makes you think the Leica is a 24mm lens and not considering the Sony might be more like a 28-70 (while 24-70 just sounds better in advertise).

Backscreen and EVF Colors are adjusteable seperatly, why does no one say this

Had a q2, sold it for a m11 with a 35 summilux and 75 summarit. q2 is a gateway drug

Great video! But, its not tiny....at all. The Sony RX1 is tiny. The fuji x-e4 is "small". The Leica Q2 is big. Pretty much as big as anything you can choose.

your thumb grip look very different from the Leica one, I guess that's why you have problem with turning the dials.

Thanks for helping us keeping our GAS in check. I do really love the concept of it - if it had a 35mm lens. I wonder if Sony will update their RX, or maybe Nikon will bless us with a FF mirrorless compact like their older df model.

This review is very helpful. The negatives are very very significant for a $6k camera. No way I can toss $$ at it with these drawbacks.

Of course, you dropped it on the pavement. You were carrying it with the strap dangling you schmuck. Poser, not pro. And sorry, the Q2 , in chrome or mono, does not have the “Leica look” in terms of rendering.
