There’s a huge difference between pre recorded and pre planned set. Pre recorded is you literally record the whole set and just click play. Pre planned is when you have songs set with cues and know when to transition. Your visual team also assigns lights for every instance of the show.

When I didnt have my Subscription active to Studio One I downloaded Reaper and Cakewalk to see how I liked them. Personally I prefer Cakewalk over Reaper. The UI for Cakewalk is much better designed and the compatibility with Plugins is just as solid as Studio One. Honestly its just all what you are comfortable with.

It’s weird that he says that about reaper because that was the first daw I started with, and I found it way easier for what I wanted to do which was just live recording. It did make the switch to ableton easier. FL feels like a whole different beast compared to the two. I’ve honestly had the hardest time picking that one up because the work flow and ui is just so strange. I could see how if you started on fl and only used that you would have a hard time switching to any other daw.

Deadmou5 was talking about playing Black Jack. So i went on stake with my free $2 and hit a 450x on keno with a $.10 bet and made about $45. Then i went to the live Black Jack tables for the first time and accidently bet all of it instead of $1. THEN I HIT BLACK JACK and got it to $100. I could not believe it! LOL! Yea, I stopped going to festivals because of the prerecorded stuff. I want to see artist or djs do their craft. For example, I wouldn't go to a concert to see an artist lip sing. I'm not the police here, to each their own. That's just not what I want to use my money for. If other people are cool with that that's cool, no hate on my part.

I was shocked he went Reaper for a DAW. I've been using Reaper for about 6 years now. My journey - Steinberg Pro Tools (Atari ST) > Cubase (PC) > Reason (v2.5-7) > Reaper (OSX)

Reaper is awesome. It even edits basic video. But yeah, it's not pick up and play.

I’m surprised you seem surprised about about a question on a pre recorded set when it’s all over the internet. I think most consumers are coming from the buyer perspective’s and not the manager - and they want to know if u all keep it real, that’s all.

I can’t do EDC anymore. It’s a cluster fuck. Playing as KX5 at Global Dance Festival in Denver, Colorado was almost perfect. Not perfect because the trusses and VIP sections neutered the experience for everyone else. How to see you come back.

I actually don’t like how he brushes off the fact that he plays pre recorded sets all the time. Virtual riot and eliminate have talked about playing sets at huge festivals and what they do is not planned. I have never heard about big festivals usually having pre recorded sets. I think lying to your audience and taking advantage of their very reasonable assumption that you would be DJing when standing in front of a DJ console is very immoral. People are paying to see you DJ after all, your cheating them out of their money. L take

Ok... pre-recorded sets.... I wasn't able to touch my (vinyl) turntables or any tables for 7 years... in that time I was doing production. I set up the decks recently... and did a set that I consider stage worthy. By the end of it I was mixing well one handed and vaping with the other. Point being, spinning records GETS that easy at some point..... riding a bike, basic ass shit. So WHO GIVES A FUCK if a set is pre-recorded?... the DJ would've done just as good anyways. So who cares if they play it live there, or in their underwear ay home?

I like the thrill of not planning a set, the inspiration of the crowd, and getting a bright idea of what to play next on the fly. But no one is coming to my shows because of my name, so I can do that. When people go to see a superstar dj, they have a certain expectation, so better give them what they want.

Furthermore, almost every festival I’ve been to, the SPL(chest pounding bass) of each set has gotten exponentially higher until the headliner. Its like the opening acts can only play their sets so loud. Which I guess makes sense. If you’re the headliner you def want to be the loudest at the festival

I was expecting FL "hate" during the "best DAW" question, but as a 14-year long FL main, I kinda think he has some excellent points. For me however, I don't need to switch DAW, because FL does and has exactly what I want/need in a DAW. Were I to switch, I'm sure I'd need luck though, because while you always need to familiarize yourself when switching DAW, making the switch from FL to Ableton, just to try something else, was overwhelming for me.
