Dave was great, but don't forget that he ultimately walked out on the entire band. Hagar played a huge role in bringing them back and helped them become a massive commercial success. Even Alex has to acknowledge that. Sammy deserves a bit of respect.

MAN! They really made some good music together. Sammy will never be David, but that's a compliment. I loved Dave in the late 70's early 80's a LOT. Both are amazing. Sammy kept his voice, but if you listen to some of Roth's newer solo stuff, he has a much different and tuned vocal range. It's far from his VH days, but he CAN sound amazing, even now.

I don't know but it's awfully refreshing to here van halen without a drunk DLR .

Both frontmen brought something to the table. Diamond Dave is what brought people to the band. He was multitalented and had a great voice. He could entertain on the stage with his acrobatics. Hagar brought a more refined and pure voice. Anyone who discredits him for his clear vocals is an ignorant. He has a great voice and a great spirit. He led the band to their first number one hit (and several more). He can’t fill the shoes of David, but he sure does a great job of being original. The Van Halen brothers are what led to the eventual decline of the band. They pushed Hagar and Anthony away. Anthony was a great backup vocalist for the band, shame that they got rid of him.

Whoever says AVH isn't a great drummer don't know their ass from a 🕳️ in the ground...The Professor and Him are the two main reasons why i picked a pair of drumsticks 🥁

I was in Atlanta searching for Metallica's new Enter Sandman video in Aug 1991 right before I was going into the Navy. All I was getting was the Smells Like Teen Spirit videos, and then MTV News came on and said "Van Halen's opening concert is in Atlanta TONIGHT!" I begged my mom for the $25 to go see them, she said yes. The rest is basically this fucking video, but with Alice In Chains opening for them. Be jealous you weren't there. Be jealous Im seeing them again in August 2024 in Dallas.

Sammy was such a good fit with VH. High intensity, high energy, upbeat and fast. Like pieces of a puzzle made to go together.

Been “struggling” to learn guitar…for 40 years…Eddie is just an alien - this is the Mt Everest of players - nobody is even close….

Absolute, unstoppable energy and flawless performance front to back! Sammy's vocals were at their peak, Michael went crazy on that bass and high harmonies were so tight, Alex was in beast mode on the skins... and Eddie? I swear, the way he made his guitar sing with those original tones - and making it look so effortless to boot - will be THE standard for rock guitarists for generations to come!

Saw the guys play in Melbourne in the era of this concert, got to meet the band, one of the highs I'll never forget, I'm near 60 now and still play this loud and love it like I did 40yrs ago... thanks VH, RIP Eddie you'll always be the man!

Hey man what a performance the Guitar to Eddie is just an extension of his own body he is so natural the vocals ,song writing, musicianship ... its top class ... I am a VH fan since 1986 when I first recorded off the Radio a VH 30 minute special and never looked back ... in fact before that I was listening soley to Hip hop and Reggae and Pop music- forever changed my choices in music
And my opinion is why take sides of Dave vs Sammy etc everything is Gold to me
