FYI, all/most our electricity is generated by hydro power. We have one of the cheapest electricity around.

Given the housing purchase costs here how do residents keep paying rent after they retire? Is there government assistance toward rent after retirement?

It can also come down to preferences and one's personal situation. You need money to live there. A working person will struggle there. And it used to be a very British place, as the native-settler population for English Canada is English and Scottish. But now it's very Chinese, especially in the younger demographics. So if you're young and want to find a partner who is Chinese, or you love that culture and that scene, then it's for you. Otherwise, you may feel quite isolated and experience cultural clashes. We live among other people, not as individuals, and so it's a very significant aspect of life there.

Hey Trav. Great video! I really enjoyed hearing about your experience and perspective on living in Vancouver. Pretty solid observations and superb b-roll! As a born and raised Vancouverite, I share your enthusiasm and optimism for this beautiful place. We aren't perfect, but we are darn close to it!

I was planning on doing a Seattle/Vancouver trip in late September. Would you recommend I still do it? I’ve just been seeing a lot of videos on homelessness and drug problems in the city which is got me worried about enjoying the trip

Awesome video. Thanks! Lived here for a summer back in 2007. Visited again for a week in 2014. Still have more to explore. Beautiful city. A nice chill vibe. Very pricey but really - the rest of the country is quickly catching up. I’m in Ontario, not much better here. Also in London ontario - the violence, homeless, drugs, etc - EXTREMELY bad here. Over the past 5 years it’s been steadily getting out of control. Anyways, great points you make about the quality of life in van . great job trav!
Useless sidebar - Stanley park and coal harbour - can’t say enough. By far my fav area.

As an es East Van Boy in the 90's i love van. One thing is Vans food is cheap... East Vaners pride ourselves in ethnic hoods that have to compete... so low low genuine viet, chinese, asian, italian, greek, spanish etc eats. Oh..and the music scene is historical. EVLocols.

You got a good year weather-wise, there are some summers where it still rains 10-15 days a month & the winter was real, with more snow than the city typically gets (where it is usually rain).

I didnt know that there was regulations around how tall buildings could be but it is beautiful that there is...

The Couver needs to build an HSR underwater to Naniamo on Vancouver Island. Vancouver Island is big enough to develop and still have plenty of wild wilderness left.

Hey Trav, want to let you know you’re starting to give me Anthony Bourdain vibes. Your main shtick is hockey and it’s always present in your videos, but you make awesome travel vlogs that are so informative and fun to watch!

Bourdain started just making food videos but slowly transitioned into travel vids with food always being the main driver throughout.

Just something I noticed! Keep it up man.

I moved here from England in April and I think you’ve hit the nail on the head - the lifestyle, accessibility and scenery alone help me justify the cost and have had nothing but great weather so far. I have a 1 bedroom fully furnished with bills apartment for $2800 and the sad thing is I feel lucky to be paying that because it’s so tough to find a place that checks all the boxes. I haven’t experienced winter here yet of course but in no way do I regret this move so far!
Also first time commenting but I’ve watched your videos since the junior B days that I found when killing time working in a pro shop back home - keep the content coming Trav
