Yesterday I heared that things like MRI scan machines can be hacked..now I ask you. Who is to blame when skynet is taking over? Anyways...gieger or geiger?
ОтветитьWe did not come from slime. We came from dust. To dust we will return.
ОтветитьSome of the creatures in the Backrooms might fall under this genre. If a hound bites a human the human can turn into another hound, for example. Also backrooms wretches.
ОтветитьThis was so very well explained and produced. The algorithm just suggested it, but you sir/team have very creative talent. Glad i watched... nine months later 😢
ОтветитьMaybe Metamorphosis Horror would better describe it
Ответить"From the slime we came, into the slime we will return." An excellent, if disturbing, survey of this most challenging of sci-fi genres
ОтветитьIt's interesting, to me at least, that this theme resonates with much of Christian Gnosticism, where our bodies are prisons for our souls, in a universe which was created by an evil demiurge, who used evil spirits, Archons, to create our bodies, which prevent our souls from returning to the true God.
ОтветитьAlong with the last of us/ the cordyceps virus, you could have included the flood from halo, that (while created in an artificial (ish) way in lore) has an absolutely disturbing and inhuman effect on those it effects, twisting bone and flesh into blades, and in some cases (as with private Jenkins) retaining the hosts consciousness during the irreversible hive mind infection
ОтветитьFor me the scariest tipe of horror is found footage
Ответить😮😮😮no videogame crap pls.
ОтветитьCame here for the Harlan Ellison's 'I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream' book cover in the thumbnail (nails - our residual claws). Stayed for the grotesqueries...
Ответитьthink it's called body horror, as you describe it
Ответитьhm .. a co-genre of body-horror and existential sci-fi?..... evolution-horror , i like it.
ОтветитьThe Borg come to mind
Ответитьcrazy how scp isnt here
ОтветитьPeople are scared from this genre for a few reasons, the fear of losing ourselves and becoming unrecognizable, body horror, the fact that time is unpredictable and that we feel now is perfect and eventually society will grow too large to the point of utter suffering.
ОтветитьI genuinely found evolution frightening for exactly this reason when I first learnt about it as a preschooler.
ОтветитьThe pu are human beings
ОтветитьI know it may seem trite in comparison, but I suppose you could count the Pokemon series in this genre as well. Not just because evolution is a part of the game mechanics but because as the series has gone on regional variations have been introduced that show how the species continues to adapt to the world around them but the humans as well. It gets more sinister when you consider one of breeding groups is called "human-like" suggesting whatever caused the appearance of the Pokemon wasn't limited to various animals...
ОтветитьAnd this whole genre developed over 50 years to finally come out with the trashy comedy "Venom", where a mutating space monster is your moron buddy.
ОтветитьHow does one speak about forced evolution while retaining a human mind but leave out the halo flood
ОтветитьGreat video. Thanks!
I think "The time machine" can also be mentioned in this subject.
And of course "Tetsuo the iron man"
Why did I even watch this, all of the movies mentioned that I watched I didn't like.
Ответить“Evolution isn’t scary…”
Me, an anthropology student: oh ho ho
The Thing Benning's scream ...
ОтветитьThe Flood in Halo always terrified me to an existential end. Like, it's capable of reproducing from a single spore, and that single spore holds all the knowledge that it has ever absorbed from victims. Zombies are spooky, running zombies are thrilling, but what do you feel when that horde is using guns, and some corrupted cosmic being is speaking directly to you through every body in the mass. Like, bro
ОтветитьAll tomorrows is really amazing
ОтветитьIt's just called body horror. It doesn't matter if it is "cosmic forces" or some catalyzed evolution. It's all body horror and is mostly made famous by David Cronenberg. That would have taken you less than 5 minutes to understand after a google. But you knew so little about the topic you made up your own term...so you didn't even know enough to know what to Google...and made an educational video over it...
ОтветитьI love this concept which is probably why my favorite media like movies/shows/games are The Thing, Invasion of The Body Snatchers, The Last of Us, The Fly, Twlight Zone, and Annihilation.
ОтветитьWonder if you can count this as Cosmic Horror?
ОтветитьWhen the older, mean lady from Superman 3 got grabbed up by the Super-computer😳☠️
ОтветитьIt’s basically body horror but scientific
ОтветитьSomething that occurred to me watching this and reading comments after - George RR Martin's take on superheroes in the Aces High books. Specifically thinking of the incredibly disturbing section in the very first book, very first story, the event that kicked off all the people getting "powers." Really pretty awful imagery.
Altered States was so good I still recall it and I saw it when it came out... I must have been 10 years old or so, and my mother got hold of a VHS copy. It, and Mindscape, really informed a lot about how I think and feel about horror genre, about fear. This was delightfully upsetting to think about, heh - thanks
Isn't this what we call body horror?
ОтветитьSaving this
ОтветитьSystem Shock series rocked! Also, Terminator 1&2
ОтветитьThis video essay is remarkably impressive‼️👏👏
ОтветитьI think the Flood from Halo would've been interesting to touch on. I know joining a hive mind collective is slightly out of scope, but plenty of body alteration.
ОтветитьMy favorite evolutionary horror is the story album “Murder of the Universe” by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
ОтветитьI think a genre of real-world stories similar to the notion that there's something self-inflicted that's tearing you apart is the terrifying reality of radiation exposure. The stories of irradiated people who survive the initial blast is one of people who rot away from the inside out, with seemingly no control. They go from a normal looking person to a mass of flesh as soon as the radiation hits them - the only controlling factor is how long it takes. That's what truly horrifies me.
ОтветитьWait people actually fear this? It just gives me a boner.
ОтветитьI find the name 'body horror' as more fitting tho
