Avatar, alongside The Avengers, were the first two movies I ever went back to see more than once, but Avatar was the one that I saw nearly half a dozen times. I could not have been more stunned by this masterpiece.

Thank u fir admitting this movie is essentially pocahontas. I keep saying it and the toxic fans get all pissy and freak out. But it literally is just on a different planet and with aliens

Honestly I always felt Avatar was one of the most beautiful movies/stories I’ve ever seen. Not only visually beautiful but also the message overall of the story is very beautiful! It makes you feel very empathetic towards to Navi and the planet as a whole!

AVATAR STILL RULES!!

I love how much people are talking about it again after the release of Avatar: The Way of Water.
So glad our community has fully come alive again and sharing the love for one of the greatest movies to ever grace our eyes.
It's been a long 13 years, but the sequels are here to take over the world again!

The "occasionally clunky anti-colonial themes" are far from clunky.. they're some of the best elements of the film.. that they still make even reasonable ppl like yourself uncomfortable is a testament to their impact &how far we still have to go as humans

I just got back from seeing A2 The way of water, and it was even more visually stunning. A long film. I was in comfortable movie theater with reclining heated seats. Not 2 be too spoilery the story continues with evil human colonial practices.

I was 8 when this came out, and it had such a huge impact on me, I’m 22 now and hadn’t watched it in years (I used to watch it basically daily ages 8-11/12) and I’ve literally just finished watching it and wow did I forget how good it was, it filled me with nostalgia and actually made me emotional a few times, just made me feel like a kid again, definitely one of the best, most stunning movies to ever grace the earth, I haven’t seen 2 yet but I can’t wait to now no matter what other people think, we’re lucky James Cameron blessed is with the world of pandora, it’s one of the only films I’ve ever watched that makes you really feel like it’s somewhat real, and because I watched it growing up and it had such a big impact on me it just has this really weird sentimental value to it that like I said makes me emotional for some reason, amazing video too!

I like that the story takes place in the 2150s. As a futurist, I agree this time frame seems about right for when we could do the types of things that are on display here.

trudy was actually the only character in the movie i actively liked for some reason. even if only a tiny tiny bit. everyone else i was just varying degrees of "that's a thing that exists that serves it's purpose but absolutely nothing more" about. utterly gorgeous movie that nothing else like exists conceptually or visually though. good music too. makes the "that sure is a pretty high-detail early 2000's speculative biology digital landscape portrait made by someone i will NEVER be able to paint a tenth as good as" part of my brain feel good.

When it comes to worldbuilding, James Cameron is up there with the greats, like J.R.R Tolkien.

Not so much on story originality though.

Characters will always always feel “overdone”. This is because at one point or another in our lives, we all have met a type of person before. We’ve met the hardcore ranger, the lazy business man, the jealous nerd, and countless other types. This is not a bad thing. This reinforces the fact that these stereotypes are stereotypes for a reason. They’re accurate for the most part. I thought the characters including the human ones had strong characteristics and very distinct roles and reasons for being in the story. I absolutely love this movie!

Came here because I'm watching the movie in the theater again tomorrow. This is exactly what I was looking for, thank you so much for this great video and the amount of effort you've put in collecting all the information, background information and overall explanation off the process. You did one hell of a job. Soooo excited to watch the details with this perspective, thanks!!

Great "documentary" on Avatar. I was 18 when it came, and me and my mom were so blown away by it, that one week after seeing it, on New Year's Eve, we took the car and drove 100 kilometers to the nearest 3D movie theater, to see it again, in 3D.
I don't get the haters who spent much of the last ten years laughing at Avatar. The only weakness of this film is its story, and while I tend to find that a pretty glaring weakness, Avatar has so much more that holds it up, that it's still a 9/10, and it definitely deserved all that revenue.

I sincerely hope they polish the story and characters a little more in 2 and 3, so we can get 4 and 5.
The Way of Water is the first film I'm excited about in probably 4-7 years, since just about every other big franchise messed up seemingly on purpose. Cameron is one who I absolutely trust not to subvert his story and world for cheap political points. He's there to show a world and tell a story and that's it.

Just want to point out māori is a polynesian language, they originally come from cook islands if u go by science, in their myth its some idland that doesnt actually exist, their garden of eden of sorts. But they used to be classed as polynesian islanders when they followed the whales to new zealand then changed into natives over time. Filipino or taiwanese are most likely the ancestors of all polynesians thru the migration patterns. Polynesians and some south east asians share way too much genetic similarities to not be related.

3D showings need to make a comeback for the fun of going to theaters. I was surprised a couple weeks ago when I saw that Thor Love and Thunder was playing in IMAX 3D! First time in years I'd seen a 3D screening being offered. The glasses basket (I'd say at least 1 sq meter) was filled with glasses after the showing when I walked by.

Avatar was my first 3D, and it was a great ride. It is a really really good movie even if aspects of its plot are super pain by numbers.

It doesn't have that weird effect where you look at it and can see the outdated tech used. Especially love the soundtrack, imma download it for my soundtracks play list.
