Their is so much info out there about dog training and when I was only an owner I played around with every training method. I also made the big mistake of giving freedom to early and not managing my environment. Now that I am a trainer I understand the pations that it will take and the amount of management I need. It took me over 10 year to develop my training styles. It's just nice to know that you are not alone and even trainers once was that person with an out of control dog.

On day one, week one, month one - when our black lab girl was most food-motivated and dependent: name/treat 100's of times, then toss for retrieve/drop it for treat. Now, if she picks up anything around the house, she brings it to me to trade for a treat! 😁👍 At 7 months I still haven't trained a "come right to me, touch my hand so I can grab the collar" but her name and a "let's go" always brings her along...ready to start the exact "come" behavior on a longline now. SO smart, so willing, SO energetic, so wonderful. ❤️

THAT RETRIEVE THING WON'T WORK WHEN RETRIEVING DUCKS! LOL! WHAT CAN I DO INSTEAD? TRAIN DOG TO DROP IMMEDIATELY THEN REWARD WITH FOOD?

Ken. What do you mean by the OUT command? Is it different than the “leave it” command? When and how do you use it? Couldn’t find a video for it. Thanks.

My dog doesn't play tug with me... already try with 10 toys... i put food on their nose in front of cats and dogs... he still focus on the cats and dogs... my dog retrieves toys to his bed... most time, not to me, he isn't a dog who likes to share.... 10 useless lessons. not worthy. dislike

I'll add 2 more: 1) Be patient! Unlike humans, there is never a need for negative reinforcement in dog training. When you get mad, it's terrifying for your dog! From your dog's point of view, imagine a 600-lb gorilla screaming in simian rage and beating its chest and not being able to tell you what you did wrong! It WILL cause behavior problems. Your dog will listen to you eventually. If you're getting upset, love on your dog a bit then do something else and return to the training again later.
2) If your dog chews things, punish the thing your dog chewed on. I know it sounds weird. I had a golden retreiver that chewd up one of my CD's while I was at work. I read in a book (Dog Training for Dummies, to be specific, lol) about this trick, so I tried it. When I saw what she had done. I made sure my golden (who was looking like she was feeling guilty) was watching me, I did NOT punish my dog but instead went to the chewed up CD lying on teh floor and gave it a good talking to! Even tapped it a few times as a type of spanking. I felt incredibly stupid for doing this, too. But dang if it didn't work! Never chewed on anything again! I was like, "what is this sorcery??" Apparently in dog world, the CD got punished for being chewed, and my dog didn't want that punishment so it stayed away from it to avoid danger. This is how dogs think. Weird but it worked like a champ!

Truth is most people are stupid..from some one who manages a 20 acre farm..ditch the mini van and get to know your critters.
