Great content. Subscribed! Very balanced 👍😬 you’ve helped me to make up my mind - want a 2TB for an external thunderbolt enclosure 😊 - will pick up the intel 2TB - was previously going to go 970 plus - but I have two of those in my laptop already - I think the intro will be just fine for the external 👍👍👍

The reason I love this guys channel is he is completely 100% accurate when it comes to why you should buy something over what the Enthusiast channels are being paid to tell you to buy. Samsungs are the best in my opinion but when pricing a system for a customer I usually go with Adata or Crucial and these Intel drives as budget limit options. As a tech my systems usually get upgraded last because of time, I'll tell you this, my 2700x hasn't had a single issue running anything at full out even the new Flight simulator. Upgrading is nice when you need to but in most cases you can easily skip 3 or more generations and that includes Video cards as well.

I just can't hit the like button, although I sure like the video and everything Tech does !

I get the entire video is about the value proposition and that it works the same anyway, but ... I guess I will always be an enthusiast. And I am worried how far are the manufacturers going to go with the multi-level cells. I mean all these TLC and QLC drives that are good enough, just make the true SLC more expensive and out of reach, they are now "enterprise" SSDs.

And what's next ? Are they gonna tell us later 6-bit and 7-bit cells are good enogh too ? And if you are worried about longevity, hey, you can always buy bigger drives, the bigger capacity will make them last longer ! How convenient for the manufacturer !

The value proposition segment comparing the CPUs and the disconnect people have applying the same logic to SSDs is spot on.
I suffer from it myself.
At the time of my purchase the 2 TB 660p was $190 and the 1 TB Samsung was $249.
It was not easy for me to pass on the Samsung drive, but after watching the previous TechDeals SSD videos and doing my own digging I decided to go with the larger capacity.
The 2 TB 660p is the only drive in my computer and it is working great.
Since I spent a bunch of money on the CPU / MB for this computer I guess I will probably always 'feel like' I scrimped out on the SSD even though I know I didn't leave a whole lot on the table by going with the 660p.
Contrast that with choosing a very cheap case which I feel great about ...go figure.

Well fudge. I just got an 860 Evo, should have picked a QLC SATA* SSD. Then again, it was on sale for a comparable price (54 usd for 500 GB).

But what if a QLC drive would go on sale even lower? :/.

*Need SATA because old laptop.

Nice video. I just built my first computer in 12 years (had built 50+ before that). My laptop that lasted 7 years finally started having issues. I decided to build a new desktop. I got a 660p as my storage drive (and a Sabrent Rocket + for my system drive). Both were 'lower cost' options with very good specs. My laptops random SSD (whatever it was I don't even know, was going strong after 7 years; it isn't what failed). So, I think basically any drive will last long enough for the normal user. As far as speed. I mean, it wasn't all that long ago we were using HDD's. Anything that is even SSD (500mb's) is fast to me! I can admit, my new system loads to desktop in 7 seconds, which beats my old 2.5" laptop SSD that got more around 30 seconds.

I used the 660p for my Ryzen 7 PC in 2019 and it worked just fine, for boot and game drive. Later I bought a 1TB 970 evo, which I used only for DaVinci, and now Premiere. For gaming(1080p AAA and others), streaming, web browsing etc the intel 660p is perfect. I didn't see any difference between 970 evo vs 660p. Where I saw a dramatic difference and the only one is rendering in DaVinci: with 660p: the ssd was all the time at 100% and couldn't use my PC, it was frozen, with 970 evo the drive was working, but I could do something else with my PC, it was actually usable. If it were not for using DaVinci I would never use something else than 660p (1TB and 2TB).

After 3 years of ownership, I'd say no you shouldn't buy one (back then), and they suck. May 2022 firmware update fixes BSOD's! If you are cloning a drive to this, it drops to 2GB/min because it's QLC. I wish I would have bought a better one back then! It's a secondary drive now.

🤮NEVER BUY INTEL NVME!!!!
It's cheap not so fast and if you use to store sensible data and as in my case its a nightmare.
It get faulted and lost all data and none is able to recover it due Intel tampered and locked controller.
Good if you are playing useless game but a very dangerous item if you store your work or important data.

Of course QLC is cheaper. There is no justification in overpricing a memory that by comparison to others has much less write endurance. Just look at the prices of SLC flash memory and you will be amazed how expensive 32 GB of that is by comparison to much higher capacity drives made with other NAND memory. SLC lasts a lot longer but it is so expensive that most people are not likely to own any. That is because the places where they usually shop carry more price competitive stuff instead. Stuff like consumer grade NAND memory. I have no idea how long QLC is supposed to last but every time I look they are trying to add another layer. There is 96 layer QLC now. I hope that it is just 96 layers but broken into stacks of 4 for the sake of write endurance and data retention. They are not doing you any favors other than lowering the price by adding all of these layers. I would prefer to burn my critical backup data to a high quality archival disc than trust a QLC drive to hold it reliably for more than a few years!! I am not sure how hard drives compare in write endurance but they are noticeably slower. Still though hard drives are proven to potentially last a long time so long as they are not damaged. Just ty not to drop them. Also they are sensitive to the environment, if you are a smoker they will not last as long. They have very tiny tolerances for the distance above the platters that the heads are usually at. It is such a small gap they appear to touch the platters and if anything happens to that drive while it is running you might destroy all of your data. You may even hear a horrible noise from the hard drive while it happens!!
