Great video John, thank you for your service, and the two knives I bought from you are still as sharp as the day I received them. I an not an expert on the building of a knife, I went on personal recommendation of a couple of cops that have your knives. A friend of mine looked at one of the knives, (he is a knife guy, I am a gun guy), and he is telling me about the steel you used, thickness of the blade and the edge, and asked me who made it, and that he was very impressed, I thanked him for the technical info,( which really meant nothing to me), but the fit and feel of the knife in my hand, and your Kydex sheath won me over. Keep up the good work and Semper Fi.

Wow.....!
When I was in the Marines, they wouldn't let us play with sharp objects !
And as far as Ammo.....?
Forget about it !
Having said that, we are still credited with keeping the Russians from attacking the Mainland !

Mission accomplished !

Im a Ka-bar Marine, myself. But im also a huge fan of the Khukri knife because its lethal as hell and can be used as a long list of tools.
You could legitimately chop down a tree with it because of the leverage you get in a knife with so much extra wight on the last 1/3 of the blade. And the parts to sharpen it are integral and part of the design.
They even fit in the sheaths so they stay with your blade at all times.

Oil and a sharpening rod work best if want it razor sharp. But ive even seen a guy use spit and a spherical stone for this purpose but its far from optimal.
Gurkhas use the blade for everything. I even saw one used to cook. He had the flat wide blade on its side in his hand, holding it over a fire where it got so hot he was frying eggs and some other kind of meat on it.
Gurkhas are badass and the knife they are awarded is very sacred to them.

When I was young Marine in Iraq the first time, I saw them use them for so many things. Im pretty sure its their primary weqpon
I knew a Vietnam vet that worked with Gurkhas. He was never the type to lie and i realized he was legit.
Anayways, this Vietnam vet buddy would witness 6 man teams to leave the wire and into the jungle at 2 or 3AM with just their blades and a couple suppressed pistols.
Then they would come back before dawn, drenched in Vietcong blood without a shot being fired. First thing they did when they got back in the wire: find and drink tons of beer, still smeared with blood from the enemies they dropped a matter of houre before.

Last BUT NOT LEAST:
An experienced Gurkha can instantly chop off a Head, armz hand, foot/leg below the knee, whichever they choose, with a single swing.
Ive heard of hand to fighting with them that usually takes the hand or arm off the enemy instantly.
They even have (or used to) a blood oath, which has has them pledge that any time they draw their knife from its sheath, they are required to draw bloodshed before it can be put back in the shearh.
I didnt know this and ssked one if i could hold it. He didnt hesitate and pulled it out and handed it to me.
When i complimenting it and gave it back, he suddenly stuck his tongue out and cut it with his ownw knife. I was shocked and he was smiling while spitting out the blood. After that, he explaianed.
He was a good guy, yet tougher than a coffin nail. They don't draw the knife and cut themselves for just anyone.

It showed me that he considered me a friend. And felt honored .😅

I've tried out a few knives, even made one of my own. Naturally, the one I made myself was my hands down favorite untill it was stolen off my kit, the Gerber Strong-arm is the only knife so far that has come close to being able to replace the one I made. Similar thing with a small/medium pocket folder. Never gave a go at making my own, but I ended up settling on the Gerber paragraph since they're cheap and I'm more likely to set it down somewhere and forget about it than I am to break it (coming from far too many experiences) I needed an effective pocket folder that wouldn't be missed if I lost it and the perfect fixed blade No one could replace.

I was raised in the 50s and graduated from high school in 1968 . Alan Ladd did a movie about Jim Bowie , the knife used in that movie was by John Cooper who operated out of North Hollywood were I purchased my first one. This was in 1971 , some time later in my life 2019 I found on E-bay two other Cooper knives including the Arkansas tooth pick and the combat version Bowie used in Vietnam were the Gerber Mk 1 and 2 became the knife to have in fact the Gerber became the presentation knife for SEALS upon graduation from your in country training

I was issued that same machete when I was stationed at Ft Sherman at the JOTC.
The tramontina is a far superior machete for clearing brush than the gov issue machete.
In airborne school a guy gifted me a Colonel Rex Applegate combat folder. . . it was only good for opening MRE's. . .I later gifted it to a guy in my company who admired it.
We were issued the M9 bayonet as well and, although it was a very good tool , your right. It was too heavy.
I carried an armor piercing tanto chisel point combat knife on my LBV. . .outstanding tool. Put it through a metal wall locker with no damage to the blade tip.
I was gonna get a Kbar combat knife, but because of all the equipment I had to carry I opted for the smaller pilot survival knife. It was a very good tool but the leather didn't like the salt water during waterborne training at Ft Sherman.
As for folders, the Gerber Gater lockblade with clip point was ubiquitous in my unit as were the old school Spyder Co. lockblade.
I carried a gerber gator clip point lockblade and later carried the lighter weight Gerber EZ-Lock.
I carried a balisong for opening MRE's and cutting 550 cord but it sucked as a field knife and would've sucked as a combat knife having a thin blade that was held in place by one little pin. . . So got rid of that toy.
I then acquired a fix blade Fairbairn-Applegate combat dagger , the improved upon version of the WW2 F/S commando dagger. . .Very good combat knife but sucks as a utility knife.
Our most ubiquitous, most useful, knife tool was by far our leatherman multi tool.
Back to civilian life: my most used knives are my tramontina machete, LeDuck neck knife, SAK camper with wood saw blade, leatherman multi tool and sodbuster pocket knife.

Sorry to tell you the USMC has gone 'woke' .
They let females in the USMC 0311 MOS and they also let queers openly serve and marry same gender spouse. . . no more don't ask don't tell.
But having to carry a dead weight female battlebuddy as an 0311 is too woke.

Former Devil Doc here; I still have my Ka-Bar from 1991, but it's in a shadowbox now.
I also carried a Gerber Stallion folder, a Leatherman, a Victorinox Ranger Model Swiss Army Knife, and really small, Chinese made, folder that has a needle sharp point as a "last ditch" knife. I also carried a super cheap knife in my Aid Bag, because there was always someone who needed to "borrow" a knife.
I used the Victorinox the most, by far, for everything from spreading MRE Peanut Butter, Jelly, and Cheese (long blade) to cutting Gauze (scissors). I still carry it most days.

"Rare to kill an opponent in battle" perhaps for American marines my fairbarin-sykes got way more confirmed kills than any gun my relative ever used and after he left Nam he expatriates to Rhodesia and fought from 1972-1979 in Rhodesia and then continued in the SouthAfrican border conflict with both Angola and Namibia and then he "retired" to Timor-Leste during the Timor Indonesia conflict and he stacked up Indonesians while trying to flee when he died I got all if his weapons and he kept extensive journals written to our dead grandfather.

Enjoyed your presentation. Navy vet here. From one knife guy to another, good choices. Have a number of the same knives you showed in your video. Presently carry the Cold Steel SRK in the field and the SRK-C when a bit of concealment is a good thing, like walking my dog at night in the city. Have carried my K-Bar in the field and hiking/camping for more than 40 yrs. Has kept a good edge and have had zero issues. Use an Ontario machete for heavier work in the woods. Keep all your blades sharp. The way things are looking, we may have to put them to use again, sooner than later. Thank you for your service, from one vet to another.

In my experience hunting hog is a bit harder than hunting human their weapons are built into the their mouth they can't drop them but it's pretty much one hell of a rush
If you haven't tried it you need to peace out 🖕 oops sorry man wrong one LoL

I was our recon patrol units knife guy, mostly sharpening, in Nam. I have my Dads K-Bar from his service in WW2. I didn’t take it to Nam because, leather sheath. I took a handmade, by my Dads friend, knife with a reinforced canvas sheath. It’s about the same size as the K-Bar. Recon Delta, 69-70.
