Italian food is better in restaurants worldwide. Greek food is better but overall but only in Greece. There are excellent italian restaurants in Athens, I don’t know of any great Greek reataurants in Rome.

italian food is overrated in terms of variety. Greek food has healthier and tastier choices, a lot more of local ingredients being used in different kind of recipes. It shouldn't be a debate. Italian cuisine is probably the most varied in the entire Mediterranean, it ranges from Arab, Greek and Byzantine influences in the far south to Celto-Germanic influences in the north and even Slavic in the far north-east, I honestly don't know the Greek one, I only ate the pita (very good) it's a good fight because the base is very similar (Greco-Roman) but with different influences

I just got back from Greece and Italy last month . I have to say the food I had in Greece was the most memorable to me. BUT I had the best dessert in Naples. That limoncello cake was perfection 😋

As an Italian born guy, i honesty think that bad comments here are our fault. In touristic places, a lot of us serve shitty basic tourist-trap food in order to speculate over their (legitimate) ignorance

I'm Greek and i say this...Greek is better than Italian and Middle Eastern is better than Greek. The more Eastern the better! Not too far Eastern though 'cause i only love Spicy. Dogs, alive fishes, roasted worms and cockroaches on stick are a bit too eccentric for this Greek stomach.

Greek dishes besides bread has less carbs like rice and pasta spice and primarily base large portions of simple quality vegetables herb combinations with protein. The natural produce veg is intensely aromatic thus dishes taste great.During the 70s 80s especially being a smaller country.

Truth is, Greek cuisine is heavily/criminally underrated. I think Gordon used a way to try to restore Greece's cuisine reputation to the levels of Italian and French cuisines, where it should be. And that being making a viral comment.

Greece has a much greater variety of dishes compared to Italy, where a large part of its dishes is about spaghetti and pizza.
Also, in Greece we usually eat spaghetti when we run out of money, and it is generally considered poor people's food.
In addition, the huge variety and taste of grilled meats in Greece cannot be compared to any other country in the world.
The delicacies that a person can taste in a tavern in Greece will not be found anywhere else in the world, not even in the most expensive restaurants (I'm talking about the normal taverns and not the ones in the tourist places which are very expensive and crap).

Italian food is just…nothing special. There’s nothing special about pasta. Like it’s great. It’s hearty. I love a good carbonara. But good Greek food is like wow. Bold, intense flavors.

I've only been to 4 different greek restaurants and ate with 2 greek families and I have yet to find something that isn't dry or tough
but greek food that doesn't contain meat is pretty good

Everyone has the right to their own opinion but here are some facts for all of you kids 😙: Italian food is statistically the most popular and liked cuisine in the world. Check most rankings and a researches made in 2016 when they asked a bunch of people from all over the world which food have they tried and which one they liked the most. Differently from Greece, Italy is not only about what you can call the “traditional grandma’s cuisine” but it’s also the 3rd country by number of Michelin star restaurants and number of 3starsMichelin restaurants (the highest score). France and Japan which have more Michelin star restaurants than Italy on the other hand don’t have such a worldwide beloved “traditional cuisine ” so on average Italy is the country with the world’s favourite traditional cuisine which also have the most Michelin star restaurants.
Also differently from Greek food, Italian food is very popular in Michelin star restaurants around the world (especially Gordon Ramsay restaurants 😂 where I’ve been myself including his 3stars workhorse in Chelsea). Greek food which I love and has a great traditional cuisine, not popular at all when it comes to fine dining. Someone said that Greek cuisine has more variety than italian 🤦🏻: Italian cuisine has pasta (an Italian word isn’t it 😃). There are more than 350 kinds of pasta. There are infinite recipes for each of these kinds of pasta then obviously there are all the non pasta dishes 😵 but I do believe that in your trips to Rome, Venice etc you might have had always the same 8-10 dishes in those touristic restaurants 😕.
If we want to talk about products, Italy has everything that can grow and live from the Alps (the highest mountains in Europe which it shares with Austria, Switzerland and France) to the hot sea of Sicily which is a row away from North Africa.
Also Greek wine which can be really good, doesn’t compare to the Italian’s popularity and prestige. Don’t get upset, these are just facts.
Let’s not even mention truffle. One of the 2-3 most expensive products in the world which are mainly sourced from Italy where you find the best and most expensive varieties including the white one from Alba.
