And Waymo and Cruise... well, Waymo, is not going for the same market as Tesla as far as "chauffeur mode" for car owners because their cars would have a $4,000/month loan payment. And if Waymo thinks it can compete in the AV ride hail market, Tesla's RoboTaxis will cost consumers way less per drive. So all Waymo will have is some long forgotten bragging rights. (And I think he made up some of those names on his leaderboard chart.)

I'm a Tesla supporter, but I think your criticism is a bit unfair considering when the article was published. Tesla was not profitable for many years and nearly did go under. Elon tells a story of when Warren Buffet (or Charlie Munger) gave Elon all the reasons Tesla was likely to fail, and Elon admitted they were legitimate reasons, but thought it was worth trying anyway. Tesla is kicking butt now, but it could have very easily gone under early on.

I'm more astounded that they thought we wouldn't still be buying groceries (pretty much everything) online. Pretty sure I had been before 2010 for quite some time.

Oh goodness, not Navigant. Just the worst. If you look back at his Autonomy Leaders, an awful lot of them are gone. The version I remember seeing included Uber and Lyft.

I think Sam just tossed all the names down a flight of stairs and this is how it came out. Cruise is now defunct. I wonder if Waymo uses the same remote driving that Cruise did but just has not been caught. Argo has shut down. NVidia is getting sued for stealing the tech they use. Motional is on hiatus pending further safety inspections and verification. Aurora is delayed pending further safety reviews. Nuro has paused further development and laid off most of their staff and so on - lol!

James maybe you could do a real chart for autonomous driving showing where Tesla is in reality vs the incumbent competition. Love the vid as always. 😊
