IMO the biggest mistake people make is not training their ears and not using a metronome both will greatly effect ur playing. If u dont play in time it can make ur technique bad, if u have bad technique if u start playing with a metronome it kinda forces u to have better technique.

I just got down mary had a little lamb, twinkle twinkle lil star, & jingle bells 😂 I think I've done at least three of these bad things lol

So Mistake #1 is left hand thumb? hmmmm Hendrix used his thumb as an additional finger to do bass notes so having a thumb over the neck is a mistake? Not everybody plays 80s metal type scales and modes, some play blues and other's play country picking.

Great advice, but you still have long fingers. Those with actual short fingers play flat-fingered without trying as it's the only way to reach the frets. And forget the thumb coming around.

Well full arm motion doesnt necessarily have to be a mistake. I mean im playing a show, having a great time, and playing some sick ass heavy ass d-beat riff of course im doing the full arm motion XD

Yeah, I'm about 5 years away from some of these practice exercises. 16th triplets?! HA!! Only time I've ever played those was on a snare drum. LOL!! But the more rudimentary exercises, I will definitely incorporate into my practice sessions, starting today. Thanks!

the hardest and saddest thing for me is that if i'm using my thumb i have after a min or 2 extreme burning pain in my hand, like a tendon is dying, i have small hands and this makes me always sad, and the only thing that really helped as a teen was using weed and alcohol.. but as a adult this is not an option haha. its not perse with solos tho. Great video tho i'm going to practice more hahahah.

What???? I never encountered these "mistakes". Am I a genius? NOPE. All of these are only coordination thingie. It's like when walking, your feet and hand coordinate otherwise it will feel awkward. Who the hell do not use their thumbs as support even as a newbie or do not adjust the angle instinctively? What a time to be alive.

One of my myriad problems is my thumb drags on the neck when I'm moving across it.

Just watched a clip of Wayne's World on him eyeballing his dream guitar, I looked it up on a music instruments post, found the name its a Fender Squier MIJ Strat, then went to ebay to window shop was considering on getting one in white but saw one in Sunburst, fell in love with the color, then ended up here after watching a brief history where they were made and why they use letters for series for the years when they made them, I learned a lot in 2 hours, I might just learn to pick one up thanks to this video thank you.

It took me way to long to realise that those thing in the background were stage lights and not hooded doll heads 😂💀

So, I play and record standing up using CLASSICAL style, WAY easier and you can play 10x faster or 10x slower. Also that thumb technique is AMAZING too when playing classical style.
