You can not turn the salty mace into fresh but if you make the level 2 dagger and go to that broken pipe then you can pick up the Minotaur key to get the chest open on the picnic table to get the fresh mint mace which will do better for that coaltana, also hunt out the fire ants they have a decent shield and armour and you just have to upgrade your armour
