Wait wait where’s the outrage that belle is black and not white

I found that H.E.R's performance of Belle better captured the awe and wonder and innocence in her character, while Emma Watson brought too much of her own cynicism to the character. I really didn't like Emma Watson as Belle for that exact reason -- Belle, even though she was bookish, was innocent. For ex in the opening song, she's described as 'dazed and distracted with her head in the clouds' because she's always reading and imagining... like in the bridge where she's reading about her imaginary prince charming and Jack in the beanstalk.
H.E.R's expressions and innocent submission to that joy without an ounce of cynicism is what helps bring us all along in this whimsical and magical journey.

Belle's innocence is also important to maintain because it gives her more of a development arch--- Belle is innocent and loves to imagine what a prince charming is like and yet she is forced to mature out of that innocence as she rescues her father and slowly develops a friendship with the Beast. There's zero character development in Emma's performance, though I like her in general... just not as Belle. H.E.R. is a MUCH better Belle.

THIS. This is why so many people love theatre, or at least why I love it. It’s a combined passion-soup of so many talented folks with so many amazing skills! It’s clear that everyone involved had the time of their lives putting this together, and it’s amazing!

Why did the Belle have to be black?
