My child was born on Guam, and forever, Guam will hold a special place in my heart. I am not part of the military, but I know the military provides a lot of food and butter on many family's plates. However, it is my understanding too if you are non-military working on the base the pay is poor just minimum wage. Guam is a very expensive little island, because the local government is not allowed to bring any fruits from the Philippines and or Japan without paying heavy import charge this keeps many families struggling to pay for food and or are forced to leave Guam to survive beyond poverty. Shameful, it is.

The description of people on Guam as not being able to vote for President is not completely accurate. ALL people of any ancestry who are born on Guam are United States citizens and if they relocate to the mainland they can vote for President just like another American. When I lived on Guam I couldn't vote for President either, even though I was born in NYC.

I have been three times to Guam. Last one was in 2019 before pandemic. I asked a locals in food court "why are you speak English instead your native language? " They said that is more convenient for them because they learned in school in English. I am sure that locals chamorro people do not wish to became an independent. Be covered by US is really great and safe. They happy to stay as American territory. God bless Guam.

We in Puerto Rico have the same problem with the USA. We serve in the military but can not vote for the President. Vieques was one of our islands occupied 70 years by the marines until May 2003.
