This is the beauty of Objects and class in Rs logix 5000. Creating UDT is similar to class and instantiating it on the program is like instantiating objects.

Was re-watching this video again and a question I now have. How do one know what are the various Objects for which there are UDT's. Is there a list of objects? Like Motors, Valves, Transmitters etc.

A be damn! So this is what my Indian (from India) Engineer co-worker does at the office when he's writing his plant projects from scratch. I have heard of the word "UDT" before, quite a few times in fact. But i had no idea that it was referring to these tags. My personal name for these in my unknowing ignorance was to refer to them when talking to my co-worker as "Magic Tags", because they appear like magic. My co-worker knows exactly what they are, he's probably tried and failed to explain them to me, but my mind just didn't get it as yet. But he knows when I refers to them as magic tags he knew in my unknowing ignorance what i'm referring to. But, now that you have so perfectly explained them as well show them and how to create them in such simply details, i now fully understand UDT. And not when I talk to him as we work on projects together, often me watching him do programming and learning as he write each rung of logic code, i can now refer to them by proper name as UDT Tags. A little new knowledge goes a really long way. This is probably the most spectacular thing I learned all day watching many your videos, mind shattering. By by Magic Tags, i know better now. This is just hilarious to learn!


Q: Since it looks like a file is created when you make a UDT for Motors as an example, can that file be exported and then imported into a new project to define the tags as such?
