My entire workplace 401K is in the S&P 500, my Roth is in Tech, and my individual brokerage account is used for stocks for fun. Guess which one has done the best? That's right, my Tech fund, but not by a crazy amount. I think over 10-20 years it will grow much faster than the S&P, but honestly the easiest thing to do is buy VOO or VTI and set it and forget it. If you're like most people, stocks are a fun pass time & hobby. That's why you can use your Roth or an individual brokerage account for fun. If most of your money is in a safe index fund, then you can play around with the other stuff.
