Its tangara time?
ОтветитьDebian is pretty cool, and it'd use it for any home server or nas I'd ever consider setting up
I just wish it used pacman, I rlly like the arch way of package managers
I've been running testing for about 2-3 months now. I've ran into problems briefly with gnome and the theming two weeks ago. GDM didn't want to seem to work, which forced me to install the lightdm and use that until it got fixed. I can fix these problems relatively easily but it is a time sink.
The only reason I upgraded from the stable repo was because I had issues with my monitors waking up if my TV was connected to the GPU and had gone to sleep. The backports kernel had weird audio noise. The newer kernels that are in Trixie have better support for my card.
Generally people should just upgrade when Trixie becomes stable. The older packages can be worked around normally with flatpaks, downloading binaries or compiling from source (I did this with Vim on Debian 12 as some plugins I use require Vim 9.1).
Got to say I would appreciate a beginners guide. Been using stable Ubuntu for years on old hardware, but feel the need to step out a bit deeper into the water and adopt Debian for my daily driver. 👍
ОтветитьIt is soooo Tangara time!
ОтветитьI guess it's Tangara time.
ОтветитьI've been using Debian since 2001 and I'm not about to change now. Great video!
ОтветитьThis is awesome. Can't wait for Debian for absolute begginers. I need it. I've been an Arch user for almost eight years and recently made the transition to Debian. I don't know if it is obvious, but I went to the sid branch and I had some issues haha. I think trixie is going to be my first stable release to stay with, it has everything I need, bookworm lack some stuff that are in trixie. So, debian stable is an unknown land for me.
Ответитьmy main pc uses kubuntu with the zen kernel, servers run ubuntu server and truenas, laptop runs vanilla arch, every other pc i have runs debian stable
ОтветитьOh thank God she's doing a video for beginners. I haven't installed Debian since high school... or ever, I can't even remember.
Ответитьi use stable because im not .....nuf said
ОтветитьAlways enjoyed your videos. Been using Debian since Debian 9. I stopped hopping when I discovered they're all the same thing. Except for Arch and Red hat stuff.
ОтветитьOkay, I've been experimenting with Arch Linux since the beginning of the year and I've been thinking about leaving it behind, I wasn't finding any reason to continue with it. And I like APT, so... This video has made me want to use Debian (Stable) as early as tomorrow. But I'll leave that for next Saturday, a peaceful moment to do things my way. Thanks, Veronica!
And... IT'S TANGARA TIME!
Thanks Veronica.
ОтветитьI wish i could use debian but the nvidia drivers too old to be able to play games well. Maybe next PC ill get amd and try debian out
ОтветитьIt's tangara time.
ОтветитьVeronica are you still using Debian?or Pop OS?
ОтветитьStill not as risky as installing a theocratic regime ....
Ответить❤❤❤❤
ОтветитьIt’s Tangara Time!!!!😂
ОтветитьIt's tangara time!!!
Ответитьmy favorite editor of choice is gedit. I would use nano if I am remoted into one of my linux boxes through command line using ssh
ОтветитьIt's Tangara Time! Veronica you are awesome too!
ОтветитьIt's tangara time.
ОтветитьIt's a guitar, not a uke, so it's not an apology video.
ОтветитьI don't advise Debian Testing as an alternative. If you want to upgrade then Debian Sid is the one you want. Because Debian often holds back or removes software from Testing but this doesn't happen with Unstable (Sid.) I found this out for myself when I upgraded to Testing but now use Debian Sid for this reason. As for the KDE desktop I also have had a lot of problems with it. On Debian Trixie the same thing happened to me. An update did remove all of the desktop. This has on happened on Debian Sid a few days ago during an update. All of my KDE desktop got removed. Also on my other laptop which has the Mate desktop it removed all lot the KDE games I had.
The problem is that KDE is going though some major changes with their upgrade from KDE6 to KDE6. Also they are updating from QT5 to QT6 and Debian doesn't have all of the QT6 libraries needed to run the KDE, QT6 and KDE desktop as yet. So if you are going to use Debian Sid the KDE desktop is not the one to go to. It is better to install another desktop such as Mate, Gnome, Xfce, or any other GTK desktop. Since their libraries don't change very much and they don't depend on QT6 or KDE apps to run. If you want to use KDE then use Kubuntu or another Ubuntu based Linux. Since the Ubuntu based KDE versions do have Plasma 6 but are more stable. Because they seem to have ironed out the bugs. As I said you should avoid Debian Testing and go for Debian Sid since there a fewer problems. If you avoid the KDE Desktop and also LXQT which has many KDE libraries. Then you will be fine. If you do want Debian with KDE then stick with Bookworm which is Stable.
And what about backports? Do you use them?
ОтветитьI tried Ubuntu first (meh) but I quickly landed on Debian stable, then added backports to get more updated packages. Now I'm on Kali, a lightweight rolling Debian distro with OffSec tools that weren't my main goal, but I consider a bonus. I would recommend getting familiar with Debian before moving to Kali, unless it's what you want. The distro you choose can change your needs. Debian is a great place to start.
ОтветитьDebian is great for people who want a stable platform to do other things with their computer besides OS administration. It has always been bizarre to me that a certain subset of Linux users brag about how much time they spend customizing their OS. Give me reasonable defaults so I can get on with the real work.
ОтветитьI'M HITTING THE BELL
ОтветитьI have obviously been living under a rock, what is tangara?
Ответить"Always test your backups." Yes! Except in my case, if computer ever crashes, I've committed to starting a new life under a new identity far away from here. "From this moment Draygo Smith no longer exists."
ОтветитьIt's Tangara Time!
But seriously, really looking forward to your videos about Debian for beginners in full.
thank you for your grate videos I am waiting for your 'Debian for absolute beginners' video
ОтветитьI agree with Veronica; Debian Stable is an ideal choice for those of us competent to use computers but not to troubleshoot software problems. I work with hardware, for example.
ОтветитьThank You for your time and showing Debian in the future!
ОтветитьGreat and clear video. Thanks !
Ответить• Fedora Silverblue modern, up to date, stable, secure!
ОтветитьIt's Tangara Time!
I run debian stable since few month on my main server, and it works better and lighter than others "specialized" distro (like ubuntu server, of fedora once). Despite, on my gaming pc, or my laptop for work (as an IT technician), more recent packages are needed than older but stable. Linux distributions are just some philosophy, which could perfectly fit to a certain group of users, but not for everyone.
Really like this video, last night I was trying to install testing on a VM, and didn't go well 🤣
Thank you, Veronica! I just got interested in what Debian Testing is and here's an explanation from you. Now I use Fedora on my laptop. But I think about the use of Debian.
ОтветитьI loved your little jingle on the guitar! also, tangara time!
Ответитьthanks for great video as usual I saw it on Peertube, quick question, at the screen to the right, is that btop or some derivate?
ОтветитьI love debian, I tried several distros before landing on debian and I've been using debian sid for 3-4 years now, I'm happy that I've caught bugs and helped debian team while also having a system that I really like. A new debian version coming out is like Christmas in a weird way. Also can't wait for the Debian for beginners videos. I have few friends who want to get into Linux ^^
Ответитьit’s Tangara time (already seen it)
ОтветитьOh dear. 'modernizing' often means enshitifying. I hope Debian doesn't go the way of Centos and the rest of corporate America.
