Everyone is saying like “why do they hate him, he saved their lives!” And whatnot and Well the idea is more that they are all upset that he scared the shit out of them for making them think he died, and less hatred for saving their lives. As a Teenager myself who has a strong understanding of how an undeveloped brain works, it’s likey that they were just taken over by their emotions like an amygdala highjack, where emotions are what control your decisions rather then the decision making part of the brain, as they can’t both be used at the same time by teens. It’s confusing to me why people don’t understand that at all?

I already knew about the unused animations, but I didn't know it had equally vicious dialogue attached to it!

every time this short gets shown to me it pisses me off because that wasn't unused! the detectives straight up tell the protagonist they drugged him and then threaten to beat a confession out of him, it's the entire reason joker has to "remember" the plot of the game in the first place.

I wonder if he was supposed to turn on the Phantom Thieves originally and maybe that's why he's getting beat up. It would also explain the cop at the beginning saying that we were sold out, idk it makes a lot more sense than Akechi doing it

This may sound a bit weird, and it is kinda canon-unfriendly, but...
I have an OC (original character) that I made for Persona 5, who is the son of Ryuji's father and an american woman. Therefore, he and Ryuji are stepbrothers. Out of all of the Phantom Thieves, his relationship with Ryuji is the strongest. (Because Ryuji is my favorite character.)
If these events happened, it would have gone down like,
Adam(, which is his name): after everyone hits Ryuji What are you all doing?! He saved your lives!
Makoto: "Yes, but he scared us, so-"
Adam: "You rhibk THAT'S a valid reason?! He's an abuse victim! You can't just do that!"
Futaba: "Oh, so you think that just because he's your stepbrother means you know ALL about abuse?"
Adam: "No, it's because I KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE ABUSED!" sighs "My father did the same thing he did to Ryuji. You'd think my mother would oppose it, but... she joined him in it."
Everyone: shocked
Adam: "You all think that beating him up for saving your lives was okay?" chuckles "You all are... horrible human beings."
silence
Adam: "Ryuji, come with me."
Ryuji: "Why?"
Adam: "We're abandoning the Phantom Thieves. Clearly they don't want you here. I'm doing this for your own good, Ryuji." looks at Joker "Akira. I thought that you were his best friend. But... you're just like the rest of them."
Adam and Ryuji would leave the group and wouldn't come back until early in the next Palace. Even then, Adam doesn't trust the other team members, so he likely wouldn't accept any healing or items or even getting his status ailments cured by anyone but Ryuji. Because when he awakens to his Persona, King Arthur, it talks about "protecting Ryuji at all costs, because you cannot accept his dying in your arms."
But, that's just something I came up with.

I liked Persona 5 a lot, but that really ddin't sit well with me. The fact that they toned that scene down blows my mind!

I till don’t get why Ryuji was beat up in the first place. Like I find it concerning that they wanted to beat up someone who almost died and has a bum leg. Ryuji gets too much shit in my opinion. Morgana needs it more, because his little ass is much more in the wrong. But not physical violence.

Also, I’m glad they removed the torture part from the beginning, because that just rubs me the wrong way. It was already bad.

i fucking hate how while yes ryuji is clumsy, they always try to make him feel like shit. like why is morgana always such an ass to him? hell he even fucked up haru's arc, because of some jrpg trope that wasnt even a part of the story, and then this happens, after he literally risks his life for them like wtf lmaoo

Considering how Ryuji was a victim of abuse who was literally crippled by Kamoshida and always pulls through to save his friends and risk his life, its super weird and disgusting to me how he’s beaten up and abused by those closest to him as a punchline. Same with Ann being sexualized and leered at by her friends after being sexually harassed and almost being r*ped by Kamoshida

Man.. after that cutscene I went with ryuji to eat even after maxing his confident, my man really deserved some nice food after he saved our lives

The scene after shido's palace is the 2nd worst part of the game
