Halo infinite is indeed Microsoft's in house developed first NATIVELY programmed Dolby Vision and 4K HDR 120Hz VRR videogame but it is a serious MESS of a videogame product.

You buy the rather useless physical release version only to discover that the physical BD-ROM installs around 34GB of data (note that BD-ROM should be able to store 50GB of data while a UHD BD-ROM is capable of 100GB of data thus if a game is larger than 50GB it makes sense for the videogame publisher to use TWO BD-ROM discs, assuming that the game was actually fully finished and debugged like Cyberpunk/sarcasm)

Then you try to "Start" Halo Infinite (after installing the physical disc version off-line) only to be told by the actual game that you need to connect to Microsoft's servers on the internet to download the "rest of the game" then you discover that you will have to wait around twelve hours (as of December 2023 btw) just to DOWNLOAD the entire 79.1GB of data which OVER-WRITES the useless 34GB of data from the physical release BD-ROM disc just you can finally run the game, play the single player campaign story and also the coop mode which wasn't even available when this video was made.

Also note that Halo Infinite is able to run on base Xbox One, Xbox One X and the current gen Xbox Series S/X at different settings but there is just no excuse for having to hold the gamer hostage to connect to the internet and suffer half a day installing the game.

So I'm sure Dolby Vision was already fixed and Microsoft has tuned their 4K HDR 120Hz VRR mode to work properly on XbsX considering that the Xbox One X already hits 60fps at 1080p HDR and 4K HDR at 30fps but again there's no excuse for Microsoft not to make a new Halo Infinite Complete Edition using two BD-ROM discs instead of treating the Xbox owner like a total tool.

I've recently bought the 'LG OLED 55 C2' and noticed that the Dolby Vision in Halo Infinite was pretty dim like this myself (So I've turned Dolby Vision Off) BUT I was also concerned with a Strange Purple / Green Box that appears on the loading screen on boot-up to the main title screen, it appears in the Top-Right Corner of the screen as it shows the pop-up for HDR then disappears once the main title shows.

Also, the Contrast Grading around the writing etc. On initial boot of the game, is all blocky and looks pretty nasty (it lasts and runs at the same time as the strange box I just mentioned) and I don't remember it doing that or looking like this on my previous TV either.....I'm guessing it's linked to whatever's going-on with the Strange Box !?!?

I've tried changing LOADS of settings to try and get rid of it as The Strange Box was never there on my previous TV and I'm worried that something's conflicting within the settings of the C2 and my Series-X which might be doing some harm !?!?

Have you got any ideas what's happening and why it's showing-up on my new Oled TV but wasn't on my previous HDTV ??

Have you any ideas how to fix it at-all ??

Do you think it's doing any harm to either my C2 or my Series-X ??

Many Thanks in Advance for Any Help / Info,

Any Help / Info will be Greatly Appreciated !!

The issue with HDR in gaming is that MOST GAMES, even when they actually support HDR, aren't actually HDR. They are STILL using SDR color pallets. Meaning the HDR becomes absolutely useless in most titles claiming to be HDR. Only a handful of games that support HDR actually use colors you can't get in SDR. IN FACT, because they don't use the full color support from HDR, you end up getting muted looking colors. So in essence, the Dolby Vision is actually how the game is meant to look. While HDR10 is more like how Samsung TV's "increase vibrancy" which even their cell phones do. One of the reasons that I upgraded to a Sony Xperia 1 Mark 2 instead of other known popular brands. The Sony phone has a "creator mode" which gives you color accuracy instead of high vibrancy. So I can have accurate color representation meaning if a color is muted or dull, then it looks dull. Where as on a Samsung phone, those dull colors would actually be more vibrant and "pop" more. A lot of PC users actually lose their mind when they switch from an SDR monitor to HDR and enabling HDR in windows. Windows is still in SDR, so you get muted colors which is "how they should look" and people hate it. People today are so used to TV's and Phones like Samsung products which give fake vibrancy to colors that shouldn't. And thus they hate the HDR and start making up excuses like "you need 1000 nits or more" and all kinds of other bullshit. I also want to point out that brightness does not effect color. I can literally tune my monitor to 80 nits going through all the color data, saving the profile for windows. Then changing the monitor to 600 nits (yes 600 full screen nits, actually its 603 at 100% but still) and then run the color checker, and the colors will be spot on. I have done this test myself on multiple displays. which proves HDR and color accuracy has nothing to do with brightness. Now changing contrast will effect color capability and throw the colors way off. HDR is never about brightness but color and contrast.

I don't know if it's the Dolby vision or HDR but on my series s while playing halo infinite there’s a distinct frame skipping and can be easily seen while panning left or right. Had to turn off both Dolby and hdr for it to go away. Maybe it’s just my tv I dunno.

So for films I always choose the HDR setting and not the Dolby Vision setting, but films are e.g. Only available in HDR 10 on Amazon, most of them look much worse ( and much darker) than films that are only available in Dolby Vision on Netflix.
