I can relate to her character very much especially being in love and dating with an unavailable man who is married. Not an easy situation and many would judge but yes if you are in that position, know you are not alone

Oh....how I love this beautiful, heartbreaking story..first the book, then this gorgeous movie. Wonderful ❤!

This love scene is unique in cinema. In our time of instant sexual gratification and replaceability, the Chairman and Chiyo overcame age, indentured servitude, business obligations, misunderstanding, separation, destructive jealousy, and war to meet at this tea garden and to finally express their love.
Every young man and woman considering a serious relationship should be made to watch this romance film- in my mind, the best ever made.

Regardless of the plausibility of these characters falling in love when Chiyo was a child doesn't matter to me. I can accept suspension of disbelief because the actors who portraited the characters were brilliant. It deserved the acclaim it received, and then some. Rob Marshall did a superb job as director.

I get a goosebump with each word of this scene. These actors are portraying the characters in a perfect way.
And I’m totally agree with the idea that LOVE is blind and has no boundaries, so if two people love each other truly nothing matters. Best movie ever. ❤

Goodness. I was so stressed out while watching this. I had thought she was gonna reject him like Maguire's ending scene in Spider Man 1 lol. But I am so glad they did it like this. She really deserves to be happy and I had had a feeling likw she was gonna jump off the cliff or something, so as she found a man who is loving and kind and rich, in the middle of the literal World War Two, where everybody starved and died, I could not have been more satisfied.

This movie was based back in the old days. When girls as 12 years old were given to 60 year old men. It was normal. It isn't right in our day and age. But this movie wasn't based in 2000s. It's just a movie. Beautiful culture. He fell for her at 15. Not at 9. Asians don't have colored eyes, so I'm assuming every man that came across her was stunned by her beauty and unusual eye color. You see a lot of movies where it is worst. It is a simple romantic movie. With culture. Read the book

Why this relationship isn't weird:

The chairman did not have any attraction to Chiyo when she was a child. He was just showing her kindness. He only met her once. They didn't have a relationship where he raised her or groomed her. He met her one time, forgot about her, then he saw her again many years later when she was spying on Pumpkin and decided to help her out by sending Mameha her way. After that, he became interested in her for the woman she had become.

In Chiyo's case, it's not weird that she developed feelings for him when she was younger because she was a child. Kids develop crushes on adults all the time. Think of a kid crushing on their teacher. As she got older, her feelings developed from a child-like crush to a more mature attraction. It would've been perverted if the chairman liked her back then because he was the adult but in Chiyo's case, it's harmless.

I am someone who is easily disturbed by a romantic relationship if it's depicted with a weird dynamic or anything that could be perceived as grooming, but I think the criticism this relationship receives is undeserved.
